General Consensus
The year of 2006 many seen as a passing of the torch with the retirement of Trish Stratus and Lita. James is regarded as the one to have taken up that mantle. She is often credited as of the cornerstone and backbone of the Divas Division when the WWE focused more on the asthetics than quality of women's wrestling.
Often lauded for her ability to work a good program and make wrestlers with much more limited skillsets
look more improved and polished than they actually are (Maryse and Rosa Mendes.
Despite her popular status with supporters and championship wins, James is someone still regarded by many as being underated and underutilized by WWE.{{cite web | url=https://dailyddt.com/2020/08/18/wwe-needs-better-mickie-james-going-forward/amp/ | title=WWE needs to do better by Mickie James going forward | publisher=Daily DDT | date=18 August 2020 | accessdate=8 March 2021}}{{cite web | url=https://wpubeacon.com/10448/opinions/the-disrespect-of-mickie-james-needs-to-stop/ | title=The Disrespect of Mickie James Needs To Stop | publisher=The Beacon | date=6 September 2020 | accessdate=8 March 2021}}{{cite web | url=https://www.distractify.com/p/what-happened-to-mickie-james-wwe | title=WWE Fans Are Livid About the Strange Mickie James/Asuka Match | publisher=Stratify | date=15 September 2020 | accessdate=8 March 2021}}{{cite web | url=https://celeb-media.com/2021/03/03/the-treatment-of-female-legends-in-wwe-is-subpar-at-best/?amp | title=The Treatment of Female Legends in WWE is Subpar at Best | publisher=Celeb Media | date=3 March 2021 | accessdate=8 March 2021}}{{cite web | url=https://wrestletalk.com/news/could-the-poor-booking-of-mickie-james-be-a-shot-at-nick-aldis/ | title=Could The Poor Booking Of Mickie James Be A Shot At Nick Aldis? | publisher=Wrestle Talk | accessdate=8 March 2021}} A sentiment shared by many leading figures in the industry such Jim Ross and Eric Bischoff.
