Doliodus is a genus of stem-group cartilaginous fish known from the Early Devonian period. It includes a single named species, D. problematicus, which was originally described based on isolated teeth but is known from well-preserved body fossils. Doliodus possesses a mosaic of features from cartilaginous fish (class Chondrichthyes) and acanthodians (class Acanthodii), and it is considered a transitional fossil between the two groups.
Discovery and classification
Doliodus problematicus has been described as a "very important" taxon in the understanding of chondrichthyan evolution.{{Cite book |last=Nelson |first=Joseph S. |title=Fishes of the world |last2=Grande |first2=Terry |last3=Wilson |first3=Mark V.
