Real Robots

Real Robots war ein 14tägig erscheinendes Technikmagazin aus dem Verlag Eaglemoss Publications. Es wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit der University of Reading entwickelt. Der Käufer des Magazins erhielt im Laufe der Zeit alle notwendigen Teile, um einen Roboter namens "Cybot" und später einen zweiten mit dem Namen "Tom" zusammenbauen zu können. Die Serie erschien in mehreren Sprachen und Ländern.

There were 96 issues of the magazine, die in fünf Phasen eingeteilt waren:

  • Phase 1 - Folge 1 bis 17 - Ein Roboter entsteht, der Linien auf dem Boden folgen kann, Licht und Objekte erkennt
  • Phase 2 - Folge 18 bis 40 - Es entsteht eine Fernbedienung mit einer Docking Station, um Cybot zu programmieren. Außerdem werden alternative Verkleidungen für Cybot geliefert, so dass er als 'Team Cybot' im Stil von Formel-1 erscheinen kann.
  • Phase 3 - Folge 41 bis 55 - Der Cybot kann von der menschlichen Stimme gesteuert werden und erhält weitere Komponenten für die Fernsteuerung.
  • Phase 4 - Folge 56 bis 70 - Cybot lern 'football'. Infrared location sensors are added to Cybot, as well as Infrared beacons in the form of a ball and a goal.
  • Phase 5 - Folge 71 bis 96 - TOM (Tracking Orbital Module) is built. TOM ist ein kleinerer Roboter als Cybot, aber mit ähnlichem Aussehen. Er erkennt Töne, hat eine höhere Geschwindigkeit, ist voll programmierbar, zeigt Gefühle und interagiert mit Cybot.
