I've got a PhD in organic chemistry (earned longer ago than I really care to think about). My years in academic, government and industrial labs have turned me into something of a jack-of-all-trades. My chemical interests include enhanced oil recovery, surfactants, bleaching wood pulp, lignin chemistry, organic synthesis, instrumental analysis (especially NMR), transition metal catalysis and polyurethane chemistry.

Apart from chemistry, I have interests in digital photography, military aircraft and history.

I am a firm believer in the Wikipedia project and contribute as time allows. I have written numerous articles for scientific journals and technical conferences so I try to set high standards for any contributions I make. I find it extremely irritating to be continuously reverting nonsense edits from anonymous users, especially those from shared IP addresses.
