:I'm wondering if I can get your advice on something. I recently involved myself in a set of contentious edits on Proton AG (see also Talk:Proton AG). This was my first time getting involved in something beyond simple edits, and while I thought I had a reasonable grasp of the relevant policies, I seem to have got it wrong. I don't really have enough spare time to dedicate to being an editor to justify signing up to the adopt-a-user program, and I get the impression that the Teahouse is more appropriate for specific questions, whereas I'm looking for general pointers of what I'm getting wrong. Where's the best place to ask for advice and pointers?

Proton-related edits

Hello, I notice that you're very interested in Proton. That's all very nice, but please avoid edit warring. If you're unsure when you might be edit warring, you can apply a self-enforced WP:1RR (that is, avoid reverting other people's edits in Proton articles). To avoid looking like a disruptive single-purpose account, I suggest building some experience with editing on topics you're less opinionated about. Let me know if you need suggestions. :Hey. Thanks for the message. I was trying, in good faith, to help resolve the edit war that's going on but I seem to be getting something wrong. The Proton page is the first page I edited when I joined as an editor, so it kinda holds a special interest for me. There's a common adage of writing about what you know - for me that's gin and privacy tools.

:Would you mind expanding on the exceptional claim thing? To me it seem an open-and-shut case, but it being dismissed so curtly has me wondering if I've completely got the wrong end of the stick, but also leaves me with no real resolution about why it's not. I'm not a particularly experienced editor and I've probably bitten off more than I can chew getting involved with all this (learn to walk before you run, and all that).

::Simplifying, an extraordinary claim is something that goes against many reliable sources. The Measles vaccine article says "The vaccine is generally safe, even for those infected by HIV", relying on a vast body of research. If I want to add "but a study in 2025 showed it's not safe in ", I need a very strong source.

::Writing about what you know is good. :Category:Gins and :Category:Privacy are vast!
