Copying licensed material requires attribution

Hi. I see in a recent addition to :Penal labour in the United Kingdom you included material from a webpage that is available under a compatible Open Government Licence. That's okay, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. It's also required under the terms of the license. I've added the attribution for this particular instance. Please make sure that you follow this licensing requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future. — Diannaa (talk) 13:49, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

:Sorry.

:I will be more careful in the future. DotCoder (talk) 15:45, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for your contributions to Patient Client Council (Northern Ireland). Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it could be a suitable article subject, but currently it lacks sufficient prose and context to be in the mainspace.

File:Information.svg Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved content from :Prostitution in Northern Ireland into :Human Trafficking and Exploitation (Criminal Justice and Support for Victims) Act (Northern Ireland) 2015. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content (here or elsewhere), Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from page name; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{tl|copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. John B123 (talk) 04:50, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

File:AFC-Logo_Decline.svgYour recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by DoubleGrazing was:

{{divbox|gray|3=This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.|}} The comment the reviewer left was:

{{divbox|blue|3=Local politicians are not notable per WP:NPOL, they need to establish notability via WP:GNG. The sources cited in this draft are a mix of routine election reporting and primary sources, none of which contributes towards GNG.}} Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. I have no issue at all with you splitting the article as you did, it was a good thing to do, but you should have provided attribution at the time that you copied out of the old article and also as you copied into the new article. It's really important to do this - see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia for future reference. :I'll add this: you seem to be very eager to contribute here - your editing is prolific, both before and after your block for copyright violations. If you want to contribute here, you need to be willing to abide by our policies and guidelines - not only those pertaining to copyright, but also those pertaining to sockpuppetry. I appreciate that you made an unblock request, which was declined, but the remedy to that is not simply to create a new account and carry on as you were before. I see multiple messages above raising concerns about copyright above, but I see no substantive response from you to them until after you were blocked - and even then, you don't give any indication that you have actually read and understood the policy. For example, you indicate that you had copy/pasted content and that you intended to come back and edit it to include paraphrasing afterwards. Had you read the policy, you would understand that (a) you may not even temporarily introduce copyright violations, and (b) that merely parahrasing content is not sufficient - it must be entirely written in your own words from the outset. To be unblocked, you will have to make a much more convincing unblock request, demonstrating that you have genuinely read the relevant policies, and understood the concerns that people have been raising with you for months.
