Downgrade protection for article [[Djibouti]]

I think the protection is way overdue and its best if all users could edit it. DotesConks (talk) 00:22, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

:Do you have any policy-based reasons why an admin should overrule an arbcom remedy (and in so doing lose their permissions and permanently damage the community's trust in them)? This is merely your opinion, and it doesn't dovetail with our community's established social norms. BusterD (talk) 01:50, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

::Hello User:DotesConks. If I were to lift the WP:ECP protection on Djibouti you would still not be able to edit there, since the entire topic of the Horn of Africa is covered by Arbcom sanctions. You would still need to have 500 edits and 30 days tenure to make any changes in that entire topic area. EdJohnston (talk) 16:36, 28 March 2025 (UTC)

Question about the [[Battle of Firaz]]

  • {{pagelinks|Battle of Firaz}}
  • {{userlinks|Skitash}}
  • {{userlinks|R3YBOl}}
  • {{userlinks|Rxsxuis}}

I noticed an increase in editing/editwarring on Battle of Firaz by two editors(Skitash & R3YBOl) against another editor(Rxsxuis). None of the parties involved have used the article talk page.

Upon further digging I find that user:R3YBOl had explicitly posted on Skitash's talk page, "[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Skitash#Battle_of_al-Asnam Well thank you but I think you should take a look to this page " Battle of Firaz ", Like They even removed the result.]" Posted at 12:36, 16 April 2025. Skitash first edit(ever) to Battle of Firaz occurrs at [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=prev&oldid=1285899361 12:58, 16 April 2025].

Isn't this a clear case of WP:Canvassing?? --Kansas Bear 17:05, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

:I have notified Skitash and R3YBOl of this complaint, and hope they might respond. The name 'Paramandyr' doesn't come trippingly off the tongue. It might be easier to keep track if you would change your signature to match your name. EdJohnston (talk) 20:03, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

::Hello. Just to clarify, an editor posted on my talk page to inform me about IP vandalism on Battle of al-Asnam. I replied to let them know that the issue had already been resolved (the IPs were reverted and the page was protected). They then brought up another article (Battle of Firaz), where I assumed similar vandalism might be happening. I checked the article myself and found disruptive edits such as the removal of sourced content and POV-pushing, to which I responded by restoring the sourced content. As for the editor who posted those messages on my talk page, I believe they acted in good faith by expressing their concerns about disruptive editing. They didn't ask me to take a side, revert anything, or join a discussion. Skitash (talk) 20:01, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

:::User:Skitash, thanks for your reply. EdJohnston (talk) 20:03, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

::Hello. I didn't mean to violate any Wikipedia rules. I only reached out Skitash because I noticed changes happening in the page seem like a possible vandalism and mistakes, and I thought he might help verify things. I didn't ask him to take my side or have a specific view, just take a look and he ended up helping and citing 6 sources for the result battle which that made me appreciate a lot. I also recommended one source about the battle's result myself. I now understand the concerns and will be more careful in future. R3YBOl (talk) 20:18, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

:::Ed, I'm back to Kansas Bear once again.

:::Also, I'm disappointed in both editors since the edit war was started by Skitash, and instead of starting a discussion on the talk page, they slapped a [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Rxsxuis&diff=prev&oldid=1285909765 Unconstructive warning], followed quickly by an [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Rxsxuis&diff=next&oldid=1285909765 Edit warring warning] on user:Rxsxuis' talk page. Hardly assuming good faith. Also, none of the editors went to the article talk page per WP:BRD. R3YBOl those six sources are not reliable sources, which I have explained on Talk:Battle of Firaz. I believe something should be done about that article, but that can be discussed there. I find this explanation:

::*"I noticed changes happening in the page seem like a possible vandalism and mistakes.."

:::Highly unlikely, since there is this page, Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Apparently, Skitash or R3YBOl were completely unaware of this page, or perhaps that wouldn't have garnered the desired result. --Kansas Bear (talk) 23:48, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

:::AND, this isn't R3YBOl's first time calling other editor's edits vandalism, see here where R3YBOl [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Hollowww&diff=prev&oldid=1283431154 posts on user:Hollowww's talk page]. This is where R3YBOl calling [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Odaenathus%27_Sasanian_Campaign&diff=prev&oldid=1283410847 Wikaviani's edits(April 1st) as vandalism]. --Kansas Bear (talk) 02:13, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

::::Well Yes I called wikaviani's edits as "vandalism" but during these times When I asked that one editor "Hollowww" to check on the page, Some other Wikipedian administrator told me about how I shouldn't call others as vandalists (He told me that in some other social media out of Wikipedia) and about wikaviani edits, Later he kept working on the page that I asked Hollowww to check, I found Wikaviani's edits reasonable. The sources you explained and talked about there in the talk page of Battle of Firaz, I just saw them now. I do apologize for the second time and this won't be repeated again. but I still got one question, If there are so many edits on some article and I need for example some Admin or a higher role editor to check and if the users edits are valid or not, Where should I request for that? here Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism? R3YBOl (talk) 10:27, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

:Ed, after waiting six days it's clear Skitash and R3YBOl aren't interested in the discussion on the Battle of Firaz talk page, despite concerns of unconstructive editing and vandalism. I feel this matter is closed. My sincerest thanks!--Kansas Bear (talk) 02:13, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
