Question from PurviiMjumudar (11:34, 15 May 2025)

how to craeate a wikipedia page --PurviiMjumudar (talk) 11:34, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

:Hi, @PurviiMjumudar, I would recomend you use the articles for creation process! There you can experiment with source editing as you need. It is also helpful to look at existing articles that are similar to the topic you want to write about and use them for inspiration! Eddie891 Talk Work 12:05, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from Vonvsdrizzy on User:Vonvsdrizzy (16:45, 17 May 2025)

I am a rapper how do I make a page for myself --Vonvsdrizzy (talk) 16:45, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @Vonvsdrizzy, to be blunt, you are probably not notable enough for a Wikipedia article. Most rappers will have to meet the WP:NMUSICIAN guideline, namely:

:

:Do you meet any of these criteria, or any of the other criteria listed on that page? Eddie891 Talk Work 09:06, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from Ozrockhistory (08:01, 21 May 2025)

Hi Eddie! I'm Mo and am honoured that you are my mentor :)

I used to edit Wiki pages many many years ago but alas I feel like I have been left behind in some of the wiki code these days so am playing catch-up as best I can.

I want to add a few biographies of Australian Alternative rock icons and have started by editing the currently redirected 'Shakir Pichler' entry as I was surprised to see it has been moved.

Would you at all have any time to have a quick look at my draft and see if some formatting can be improved?

Inline citations for example, I don't know why the last couple aren't. showing.

If you are too busy, please don't treat this as important or urgent. Just thought I'd reach out to introduce myself in case.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Shakir_Pichler --Ozrockhistory (talk) 08:01, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

:Hi, @Ozrockhistory, nice to meet you! I am happy to take a look and see what I can do to help with the formatting. Eddie891 Talk Work 08:10, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

::To me, the formatting mostly looks alright. Am not sure what references are not showing? Eddie891 Talk Work 08:18, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

:::Thank you so much for such a quick response!

:::I think an inline citation or 2 at the end perhaps but may be ok now.

:::Hopefully my revision gets his entry back online at some stage.

Question from Nasjab83 (14:25, 21 May 2025)

Hi Eddie,

thank you so much for the mentorship, i am looking to edit and create Wikipedias for the Arabic speaking audience or create more more pages or edit pages about Arab topics or personas for the english speaking audience.

Is there any advice for a newbie? Thanks so much --Nasjab83 (talk) 14:25, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

:Hi, @Nasjab83, my main advice would definitely be: don't be afraid to make mistakes! You will invariably mess up, best to get used to it now. We all make mistakes around these parts, the real challenge is making sure you dust yourself off and keep going. Good luck, and happy to help if you have any questions. Question from Ozrockhistory (02:40, 22 May 2025)

Hi again.

I just had my draft denied but I think the reasons are a bit weak.

There are credible 3rd party references like actual newspaper story, music encyclopedias and other things.

Would you have any idea how I could get this published?

Perhaps something else I can add or find? --Ozrockhistory (talk) 02:40, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

:What are the THREE sources that offer the most substantial coverage, in independent reliable sources? Do note that we tend to want coverage that is not in the form of INTERVIEWS Eddie891 Talk Work 13:26, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

Soccer Players - particularly American MLS players

Hi Eddie, I see you have no history on formatting or editing American Soccer Players let alone any professional soccer players. Yet you frequently drop in on Alex Harris' Wiki page and change/add inconsistent edits. I would encourage you to view many of the other professional soccer players Wiki pages and understand that there is a standard format. Also the sources/references/articles cited use specific words and you change them? Words like coveted are not "puffery" when the original source/reference cited uses that word. Our goal is that Wiki information is consistent yet factual. Another example is when the original source/reference cited uses the word "country" and then you stop by and change it to "US". If you researched the matter, in college soccer the reference is always to "country" or "nation", not "US". Considering you have no history of formatting/creating/drafting/editing Professional Soccer Players or any Professional Athletes, it honestly looks like you are targeting this particular player, Alex Harris. I hope that is not the case. Professional athletes Wiki pages are extremely detail oriented and references are plentiful. Vividdecimal415 (talk) 17:13, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

:@Vividdecimal415: To be blunt, you are wrong on most of these counts.

:* Descriptors like "coveted" or "nail biting" and phrases like "Proving that Harris' phenomenal freshman season was no fluke" or "the rookie standout Harris" are inherently non-encyclopedic. It doesn't matter if other sourcing uses it, they are not encyclopedias.

:** "Words like coveted are not "puffery" when the original source/reference cited uses that word." - this is incorrect, sources often have their own biases.

:** "Also the sources/references/articles cited use specific words and you change them?" - yes? We are supposed to use our own phrasing. This point doesn't make sense to me.

:** The point of Wikipedia is to convey information from a neutral point of view, we can leave the more "fun" phrasing to other sources.

:* Other phrasing that I changed (such as "marking the first Ivy League player to ever win the award.") is just not particularly well written. The alternative I added, "becoming the first Ivy League player to win the award," conveys the exact same information in fewer words.

:* Please do list some other professional soccer players that use unencylopedic phrasing you claim is acceptable- I'd be curious to see them. I really don't think they exist.

:* "Our goal is that Wiki information is consistent yet factual" - incorrect, there is no requirement for consistency between Wikipedia articles

:* "Another example is when the original source/reference cited uses the word "country" and then you stop by and change it to "US"" There's nothing against saying US, so that doesn't justify a revert by itself.

:And finally, just because you don't like phrasing changes that someone made doesn't give you license to revert them without an explanation. Eddie891 Talk Work 18:04, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from DaytonMiller3000 (07:08, 25 May 2025)

What should I do if I see something that’s like totally vandalism like of course edit and remove it but like would that be it? --DaytonMiller3000 (talk) 07:08, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

:@DaytonMiller3000, Hello! Yeah, removing it is the most important thing. You could also leave a warning on the talk page of the user who added the vandalism. I'd suggest having a read of the Simple guide to vandalism cleanup, if you want a more detailed explanation. All the best, Eddie891 Talk Work 06:30, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

Hello. You are invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It's currently planned for June 16-July 13. There is currently $3338 going into it, with $500 the top prize. As 250 countries and entities is too much to patrol, entries will be by user, but there is $500 going into prizes for editors covering the most countries.
