As I said, it's all icing on the cake anyway, as Wikimedia's position is that identical copies of public domain works (and this is pretty unambiguously PD, as he died over 100 years ago) are also PD; the claim of ownership from the Archive Office would be baseless under US law. For future reference, permission for Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons to use a file is no good- they still count as non-free (or, in this case, free, as they were free anyway). Hi ,

I have a concern with the title image of this page (Sikh_pilgrim_at_the_Golden_Temple_(Harmandir_Sahib)_in_Amritsar ). If you look into the image with full resolution , you can clearly see some people reparing something on the roof of the sacred dome .Also a half naked man is in front of the temple.

I do understand that this image shows reality but still I don't see any reason just to stick with this image .This image stayed there for long because most of the people who visit Wikipedia are not familiar with editing features.

I request you to change this image to any other image you like ( from the pool) but the current title image is unacceptable as it hurts the religious sentiments of Sikh religion.

Just for the record I have no connection with the picture in question (creation, uploading, etc) - I merely nominated it for Featured pictures a couple of years back when someone else raised it as a suggestion at Picture peer review, and shifted it from a gallery into the article proper. I also have no connection with the Harmandir Sahib article beyond this.

I also know little to nothing about the Sikh religion, certainly not enough to know whether a (as you call it) half naked man would be offensive, but with the little I know I would not have thought so.

Nonetheless I must disagree with your sentiments that the "image stayed there for long because most of the people who visit Wikipedia are not familiar with editing features". Harmandir Sahib has been edited some five hundred times since this picture first went into the gallery [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Harmandir_Sahib&action=historysubmit&diff=287606796&oldid=287376010 here], and almost as many times since I moved it into the article proper [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Harmandir_Sahib&action=historysubmit&diff=289068048&oldid=287606976 here] - I don't know when it actually went into the taxobox; as I said above I have nothing to do with the article.

Additionally this picture is a Featured Picture on English Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, as well as Irish and Turkish Wikipedias. It won Commons Picture of the Year for 2009. It is used on several articles on Wikipedia, including Sikhism. It is used on dozens of other language Wikipedias and related projects - see [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:GlobalUsage&limit=500&target=Sikh+pilgrim+at+the+Golden+Temple+%28Harmandir+Sahib%29+in+Amritsar%2C+India.jpg this list]. It is clearly approved of by Wikipedia:WikiProject India.

Based on all the above, it would appear that others don't agree with your reservations with the image; the image is not in all these places by accident, and is not remaining there just because people don't know how to move or remove it. Please remember that Wikipedia is not censored. If you disagree with it's usage, the first place to start is with the article's talkpage Talk:Harmandir Sahib, or alternatively you could raise it at Wikiproject India's noticeboard.

::::As you can see, The Bugle , is a complete posting into the members talk page with a separate section header. The problem is that the GOCE page is for all March newsletters , so having the header in it is the problem. The only fix is to have one page for all newsletters or to post the whole newsletter as The Bugle is delivered. THat is a lot of code to go on each page though, the subst template is much easier and less cumbersome.

::::We use a similar format and method for the Robotics newsletters, a subst but with a separate page for each newsletter. When I deliver it I will use the subst {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Robotics/Outreach/Newsletter April 2011}} but will also add the header onto each page and my sig after. I just wanted to thank you for your comments on, to put it rather bluntly, the decline of FPC. I won't say I agree with you on all points but I appreciate that someone came out and said something and got a discussion going even, even if it may not amount to much in the end. I wish it could have been under better circumstances than you abandoning FPC but I'm not one to judge nor am I in a position to having mostly withdrawn from it myself. The image was uploaded from Commons to the English language Wikipedia in preparation for its appearance on the Main page. Cascade protection is able to protect items within a project that are transcluded onto a single page but is unable to perform cross project protection. Thus, a Commons image trancluded to the Main page could be altered by modifying the image on Commons. Creating a local copy of the image prevents this possible form of vandalism. The other means of performing this task is protecting the image on Commons. As the last admin involved with DYK that also had admin privileges on Commons left the project last November, this is currently not a practical option.

DYKUpdateBot deletes the local copy as part of its cleanup activities when the image is taken off the Main page. Thus things should be back to their previous conditions once the 08:00 8 April 2011 (UTC) update is completed. --Allen3 ^talk 14:12, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Microsoft Word does not count words in Wikipedia articles correctly, for example in your list

World Series Cricket Results contains 720 words of readable prose (not 5435) and Obernewtyn Chronicles 4462 (not 5004). I haven't checked the others but note that text in user boxes, tables and bulleted lists does not count as "readable prose".

Hello Jjron, thanks for working a little on that stub. I am not familiar enough with standard books in English about ceramics. Any reasonable book would be good enough as reference for the three types of silicon carbide, namely the one produced by the Acheson process mentioned in the main article, the one produced by sintering SiC powder (SSiC) and the one from chemical reaction of carbon with silicon (SiSiC). To get a better situation and reduce the amount of stubs, it probably makes sense to integrate these point in a chapter of the SiC article named types of silicon carbide or so, where other types could be included: SiC drived by chemical vapour deposition, and SiC derived by pyrolysis of carbo-silane resins. Thanks for your effort on the article Airbus A330. There are some points that I would like to iron out with you. The tag {{Importance-section|date=May 2011}} just under "Entry into service", I think, could be removed because, there are no other appropriate sections for the reference about ETOPS. This is because the validation for ETOPS certification takes place just after entry into service. It wouldn't fit under "Further development" because the section header implies that another variant or major development of the A330 was being planned altogether, not the ETOPS itself. There is also a tag at "and then to 180 minutes after 50,000 flight hours.[45][clarification needed]" What exactly would you like me to do? Same with "instead of a four-engine aircraft proposed by the West Germans,[clarification needed]". I've since removed the latter tag, because your explanation "What West Germans?" is to vague. Are you wondering why it's West Germans, instead of "Germans"? Well, there wasn't a "Germany" during the Cold War; only "West Germany" and "East Germany". :::Yeah, maybe, but I put a discussion on the talkpage about it where I suggested the possibility of creating a list, but I don't believe it was responded to (not last time I looked). Another GOCE editor agreed the article needed a massive purge though. The IP just re-added the junk without response, or even an edit summary, and deleted the copyedited (basically rewritten) content in the process; I suspect creating a list would meet with the same result, except then we'd have a useless list and a useless article!

:::I had also checked the edit history before doing anything, but there were no regular contributors to seek for feedback; from memory the most significant editors had ten or less edits, most of them hadn't touched it for about three years, and generally they were 'in and out' in a few days.

:::Regardless, there are so many problems with that list it really doesn't belong on WP. Unsourced, unencyclopaedic, original research, with few dates (things like station sign-offs tend to change relatively regularly), and probably at least half of it was close to unintelligible. Then by having the list, the next problem becomes that it's so incomplete, that it's not funny. Not sure where there's a win anywhere in there. Hello Jjron, I am new to this so I may make mistakes. I saw the pictures you have showing the arborist felling a eucalyptus tree in Kallista, Australia and could not help wondering about the faller's techniques. I am an old forest fire fighter and a USFS Qualified Faller and I love chainsaws. Were those pictures of the faller taken for the pictures and then the arborist felled the tree a few minutes later? If those are the actual felling cuts, where is the undercut? Also, there is someone standing in a very dangerous place, though it might be the swamper who helps the faller. I am a very curious person and when I see something unusual I can't help but wonder about it. I have never heard of a faller/forest fire fighter climbing a tree to cut it down. We stayed on the ground and flagged snags that could not be felled safely. I have always admired those tree climbers, and I have been doing some small trees like that myself, though it is a bit scary until you get used to it. Was he plunge cutting to remove the undercut? :Hello Darrell. No the pictures weren't staged. The tree felling was taking place in a public picnic ground (Grants Reserve I think it's called, just out of Kallista, if you're interested in looking it up). I actually went there mainly to take photos of birds, but then they were taking down this tree as apparently it had become dangerous.

:For the record I don't know anything about tree-felling beyond common knowledge, so I can't really help out with technical details. From memory (and it's over three years ago now) the guy was just cutting straight through the tree, then moving down a section (say 10m) and doing the same again, no undercuts or anything that I can think of (I don't even really know what an undercut is, I assume the small 'wedge' cut from below done before the main cut?), but maybe he was making them.

:They had a crane there, and it was holding the top of the tree as he cut, then lifting it down a section at a time. The guys at the bottom would then help stack it up and detach the crane (you can see the cut sections in this photo). The chainsaw man would then reattach the crane at the top of the tree, climb down about 10m, and cut another section. As I said it was a public picnic area, and also just beside a fairly busy tourist road, and although the area was fenced off, I guess they had to be careful due to those things. That's also why they couldn't just bring the whole tree down in one fall I imagine. Perhaps the crane was taking the weight of the top of the tree, meaning they didn't need to do an undercut - is this possible? I always thought that guy was in a slightly dangerous position too, but I guess it was all held by chains etc, but still things can go wrong.

:I've uploaded another photo that shows a slightly more distant view, where you can see a bit clearer how the crane was holding the top of the tree as the man with the chainsaw cut. Hope that helps!

Sorry didn't get back to you before.

I've only been up a few times. The coordinates I've got are the track starts at -37.2443,148.7566, past a tree at -37.2605,148.7562, and down to a river at -37.2615,148.7583. It'd only take a couple of hours. There's also a lookout at -37.3716,148.8201 1032m (maybe that's Woolybutt mountain). 2WD is ok in the drier times of year (so I guess now they'd be ok now). I haven't been to Goolengook because the roads were blocked off the time I tried. Wish I could give more info, but I really don't know too much. There's some maps you can buy that are made by someone who lives in the area that has more specific details than Melways type maps, but I don't remember what it was called either. Hope that helps somewhat, but I'd recommend getting some other opinions. Jill Redwood runs a lodge up there and I'm sure could tell you more. Regarding your comments to me. I had the urge to spew forth a response...

1) I didn't mean to insult your camera. To me it didn't look like a high quality photo. If you'd like to say I just don't know what I'm talking about, that's fine. I'm not much of a photographer so you may well be correct.

2) Halos around objects are often a result of sharpening. If that was done deliberately by your camera, that's fine. Again, we'll just fall back on I don't know what I'm talking about and just don't understand good photography.

3) Even though I don't know what I'm talking about (which happens a little more than I care to admit), almost every corner of Wikipedia is open to me and others like me. You'd have better luck adjusting yourself to that idea than in getting me to go read a book on command. Let's just hope I learn quick and don't do too much damage as I stumble through.

And 3) regardless of whatever issue you had with my edit to the photo, I still think it looks much better straight and without the extra cloud. But, I'm perfectly happy to let you have it your way on that point if it's your wish.

No hard feelings and I still think it's a beautiful photo.
