Congrats on Record Deal!

Hi MaranoFan! Last month, I proposed changing Bilorv's Record Deal and Showcase challenges, fearing that no one would complete their difficult formats. While checking the discussion today, I realized that you fulfilled it with the bonus in Feb 2023. Congrats and thanks for your contributions! I would appreciate your perspective over at that discussion on whether you like the format of Record Deal, not to change it now, but in terms of whether you think Showcase should be reworked. Thanks! Congratulations, and thank you today for All-American Bitch, "about the first track on Olivia Rodrigo's album Guts, "All-American Bitch". A strongly-worded critique of society's expectations from women, this song has everything, from a Kennedy reference to a transition from folk to pop-punk and a scream for the ages. Although not given the full single treatment, it did receive a great SNL performance!" - I am happy this made it still in women's month. I have an opera, 100 years old OTD, and a bio on the same page, on Bach's birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:20, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

:Thanks, Gerda! I kind of did dream of the Women's Day spot since the day I created this article, but I am glad it still worked out for another day in the month.--NØ 10:43, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

:: For IWD, I believe that title would have caused questions ("American" only? bitch?), - sorry that I was among those who said so. Once I had a DYK about a performer, but she was Czech, singing with a Japanese ensemble music especially of a German composer, - that made for an "international" aspect while of course still no women's rights. - My places offer vacation pics, including a cat - more to come, keep looking. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:58, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

:: Today, 300 years of Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern, BWV 1! We sang works for (mostly) double choir by Pachelbel, Johann Christoph Bach, Kuhnau/Bach, Gounod and Rheinberger! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:08, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

Thank you today for the article, introduced: "Did you know: ...the fact that Meghan Trainor is literally mother right now? - "I was confused about what to work on next, and decided to turn my eyes to this one since Trainor just gave birth to her second child. To make something even campier after the success of "Made You Look", Trainor enlisted the help of not just Chris Olsen but also Kris Jenner. The song was well received on TikTok but did not do very well outside of it. However, the music video is a must-watch! - Timely! - I brought two women to the same main page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:07, 11 May 2025 (UTC)

WikiCup 2025 May newsletter

The second round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 28 April at 23:59 UTC. To reiterate what we said in the previous newsletter, we are no longer disqualifying contestants based on how many points (now known as round points) they received. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. These tournament points are carried over between rounds, and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers at the end of each round. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned.

Round 2 was quite competitive. Four contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and eight scored more than 500 points (including one who has withdrawn). The following competitors scored at least 800 points:

  • {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|BeanieFan11}} with 1,233 round points from 24 good articles, 28 Did you know articles, and one In the news nomination, mainly about athletes and politicians
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|Thebiguglyalien}} with 1,127 round points, almost entirely from two high-multiplier featured articles on Black Widow (Natasha Romanova) and Grace Coolidge, in addition to two GAs and two reviews
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|History6042}} with 1,088 round points from four featured lists about Michelin-starred restaurants, nine good articles and a good topic mostly on Olympic-related subjects, seven ITN articles, and dozens of reviews
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|Gog the Mild}} with 1,085 round points from three FAs, one GA, and four DYKs on military history, as well as 18 reviews
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|Arconning}} with 887 round points, mostly from four FLs, six GAs, and seven DYKs on Olympic topics, along with more than two dozen reviews

In addition, we would like to recognize {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant16|Generalissima}} for her efforts; she scored 801 round points but withdrew before the end of the round.

The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 13 featured articles, 20 featured lists, 4 featured-topic articles, 138 good articles, 7 good-topic articles, and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 19 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 300 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. [[WP:FARGIVEN]] and [[Your Power]]

[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AFeatured_article_review%2Fnotices_given&diff=1290790819&oldid=1290704576 This edit] that removed Your Power from WP:FARGIVEN was reverted a couple of hours ago. FARGIVEN is an informal process to track noticed articles for FAR, but it is optional and not part of the FAR process (articles can still be nominated at FAR without being listed here.) The list is not managed by the FAR coordinators, but rather editors like us. You stated on the article's talk page that, [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3AYour_Power&diff=1290650265&oldid=1290642449 "I do not have any interest in taking this (article) forward"] and after nine months from the initial notice, no other editors have indicated that they want to take it forward, either. There was a problem a couple months ago where too many articles were listed at FARGIVEN, many of which had no action for several years: I fear the same thing will happen if this remains on the list without an editor willing to fix up the article or bring it to FAR. What are some solutions to avoid this artilce being listed with no action at FARGIVEN? Z1720 (talk) 03:49, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

:If somebody sees the article at WP:FARGIVEN and fixes the highlighted issues, that would be a net positive for the readers, which is really what Wikipedia is supposed to be about. If you want to start a general discussion about at what time entries at FARGIVEN should be timed out and removed, to come up with a general guideline, that would be completely okay by me. I am not seeing it established anywhere that an entry has to be removed after nine months specifically. I am too busy nowadays to even work on projects I am interested in, so you pushing me to FAR the article right now, while not holding the actual FA nominator accountable for maintaining it, is strange. I hope my time can be respected too. Cheers--NØ 15:42, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
