Reply on FIS cross-country victory count etc.

I apologize for the late reply. So there has been some confusion and disagreement on what should count as a world cup win and not previously. A few years ago stage wins weren't even counted as official WC wins. However, they are now (which I think is great personally). When it comes to pursuits I understand your question. The consistency you're looking for is that during mid-tour pursuits only "first-to-finish" gets the victory, as there is only one official victory rewarded. In tour-ending pursuits there are two victories awarded: One for fastest stage time, and one for the tour overall (which is the one "first-to-finish"). This is confirmed if you look at who gets the world cup points. The 5th of March race you're referring to from last season was a mid-tour race. Weng crossed the finish line first, and thus got the win, even though Johaug had the faster stage time. That is in line with this years race, where Nilsson won by first crossing the finish line (FIS states this on their web pages). In the FIS athlete data base there are some mistakes, as you're referring to, but FIS has said that they need time to clean up the data base after all the rule changes (I remember reading this quote on the Norwegian site langrenn.com). Did I properly answer your questions? Hope you're having a nice day!

    Speed skating

    Hello.

Thanks for your contributions to the speed skating project, Wikipedia:WikiProject Speed Skating. Maybe you want to become a project member?

I have just nominated the year articles on the European Championships for renaming, here Talk:2007 European Allround Speed Skating Championships. Please join the discussion.

    =Marrit Leenstra=

Thanks for all your edits to the Marrit Leenstra article, but don't you think you're overdoing it? You have done a whopping 156 consecutive edits since 23 January. I'm pretty sure we don't need that level of detail on her races.

Since you have such a great interest in her article, do you have any personal relation to or involvement with her? In that case, you need to read WP:COI and declare any possible conflict of interest.

    Regards

    Colours, lists, and other info

Hello Pedeshtrian, thanks for all your wonderful edits. I am not trying to be a jerk in the reverting of your contributions. However, we do have to refer to our WP:MOS when trying to write WP:Good articles. Particularly when referring and writing WP:BLP. Important considerations such as WP:Colors and MOS:NAVBOXCOLOR indicate that with colours, refer to point #4 "In the case that no properly identifying, accessible color exists; or the subject of the template or table should not be identified with a particular color (e.g., an average biography), the default colors provided by the template or the table class should be used." In other words 9 times out of 10 we need to use the default colours for headers to indicate the headings. Too many colours, too bold colours, and other redundant use of colour only serves as a distraction from the prose of WP:BLP which is the main purpose a BLP article. Additional redundant information in lists should be converted to prose instead of in lists. Do let me know if you have more questions or concerns. Krazytea(talk) 17:43, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

    ArbCom 2019 election voter message

40pxHello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on {{#time:l, j F Y|{{Arbitration Committee candidate/data|2019|end}}-1 day}}. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the Special:SecurePoll/vote/{{Arbitration Committee candidate/data. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{tlx|NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:20, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

    Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

    Thank you!

    Volleyball articles

I saw your statement at WIR that you are interested in article about women's volley. I am working on a project to increase coverage of Honda Sports Award winners. I took a break form one aspect of that project, and decided to work on creating new articles for award winners that have won this award. I happened to start with volleyball. Those articles are:

There's more that can be said about each of these athletes, but rather than concentrate on those five, I want to work on some other volleyball redlinks, then some other sports.

My obvious hope is that others will expand the articles I've started, so I thought I would just bring these to your attention, in case you were interested.--S Philbrick(Talk) 23:07, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

    :Thanks! I see what you added to Plummer - very impressed.S Philbrick(Talk) 19:50, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

::Thank you. I've also expanded the Krista Vansant article.--Pedeshtrian (talk) 17:50, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

    Thanks re Vansant

Thanks for your work on Krista Vansant. I spent a few weeks several years ago trying to add the medals to women's basketball articles, so I should have been able to add the volleyball medals easily - but I realized I wasn't that familiar with someone of the international event (Pan Am Cup versus Pan Am Games) so I decided to wait to see if someone else would take it on. You did, and I thank-you.--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:33, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

Important notice: biographies of living persons

{{ivmbox | image = Commons-emblem-notice.svg |imagesize=50px | bg = #E5F8FF | text = This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

    New Fencing Article

    Hey man,

I see that you're still apart of wikiproject fencing. I am currently working on an article about the Shin A-lam and Britta Heidemann bout at the 2012 Summer Olympics and I was hoping to get it on the 'Did You Know' tab if it is accepted later on. I just need some help finding better sources and information if you were interested. If you could help out that would be fantastic! ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on {{#time:l, j F Y|{{Arbitration Committee candidate/data|2024|end}}-1 day}}.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the Special:SecurePoll/vote/{{Arbitration Committee candidate/data. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{tlx|NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:32, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

    November 2024 Edit Summaries

Hello {{u|Pedeshtrian}}. I'm Quaerens-veritatem. Thank you for your edits of :Rhonda Fleming. When I saw the page history showing your edits, I didn't see any edit summaries. I know you're an experienced editor and I don't mean to be condescending or ignorant of WP:DTR but, per WP:TR, I encourage you to please provide a summary of every edit you make. Of course, the summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history and the summaries help other editors by (a) providing a reason for the edit, (b) saving the time to open up the edit to find out what it's all about, and (c) providing information about the edit on diff pages and lists of changes (such as page histories and watchlists).

In case you were unaware, the edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit and a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting {{myprefs|3|check=Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary}}.

As you likely know, if the edit is minor, the "This is a minor edit" box can be checked, and a good rule of thumb is that only edits consisting solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of the content may be flagged as minor edits.

Many who are ignorant of the Wikipedia policy on edit summaries fail to add them. Some ignore this basic brief task; however, failure seems inconsiderate specially since summaries are so easy to add. According to Wikipedia's consensus policy, all edits should be explained, either by clear edit summaries, or by discussion on the associated talk page.

Thank you for your attention and in advance for your compliance with our consensus policy . Kind regards, Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 02:10, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
