Draft:Alice Wilson (actress)
Would anyone be willing to help on this draft about a supporting actress in films? FloridaArmy (talk) 12:10, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
:I added a short biographical note for her. but you should find more reliable sources. what I wrote is just an example of what you should write and how to cite it. Hounaam (talk) 23:38, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
:I found some information about her family on findmygrave.com https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/23553454/alice-browning Moondust342 (talk) 02:19, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
:I found cause of death, which I added (and cited), but it was quite challenging to find sources. Zxm92 (talk) 15:23, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
There is an entry on the Italian Wikipedia here. FloridaArmy (talk) 12:13, 15 March 2025 (UTC)

Kirsty Coventry - lack of citations
Now that Kirsty Coventry has been elected president of the International Olympic Committee, there is an urgent need to improve her biography, in particular by adding pertinent inline citations where they are needed. As I am not an expert in the world of sports, I would prefer those who are to make the necessary changes.--Ipigott (talk) 09:26, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
:@Ipigott, agreed. Coventry's bio looks a lot like the figure skating bios I work on, so I may take it on, although I don't know that much about swimming or swimmers. Things are a little busy right now, but it's definitely something to tackle before next year's Olympics. On my list! Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 18:16, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
::Thanks, Figureskatingfan. Your development of this article would be much appreciated although I see some improvements have already been made. Inline referencing is still not what it should be.--Ipigott (talk) 17:14, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
:::If anyone has time to add the 'citation needed' inline disclaimer where it's most needed, I’d be glad to follow up by sourcing the appropriate citations. Zxm92 (talk) 15:26, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
Paper at Wikimania, Who are the 100 Women in Red?
Rosiestep, Cmwaura and I have a talk which we hope to present at Wikimania in August. Its titled "“Mexico City to Nairobi is over 9000 miles - Why did it take ten years and 200,000 women to get here?". Do go and have a look. It includes the sections "we were.... joined by hundreds of other editors ... We will profile a few and table a longer list". Who should they be? and........ "new biographies. Who are the stand-out discoveries?" In both cases we can only mention a few, but we will "table a longer list". I'm particularly interested in the latter.... I'm thinking "100 Women in Red". When we started Emmeline Pankhurst, Marie Curie, Nefertiti and Winnie Mandela already had a page .... who have we "found"? Who the most interesting and intriguing 100 discoveries The start might be
- Eliza Wigham (Scottish suffragist who was the first Women in Red article)
- Kate Marsden (Explorer who was lauded for her deeds and destroyed by her sexuality).
Who are the other 98? We could get a (vanity) book printed? Victuallers (talk) 09:59, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
::Assuming that our submission gets accepted... I'd like to add these two. That said, it took 325 WiR events to get to 20%, so maybe picking 1 name from each of the 325 event pages would also make sense? Also, I like the idea of publishing a (vanity) book. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:38, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
::: The link to the proposal doesn't work to me - I think one of the authors might need to go to the proposal page and share a review link there (under a 'Share Proposal' header). But this proposed talk sounds absolutely fantastic! Women In Red is a wonderful corner of Wikipedia, and has achieved remarkable things. By the way, another Wikimania proposal which I put in might (as Lajmmoore suggested) be of interest to people here - on trying to increase the number of women from the less-represented half of the world in Wikidata. Dsp13 (talk) 23:13, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Maria Lauder, the 6,000,000th EN-WP article
- Deolinda Rodrigues, co-founder, Organization of Angolan Women, her legacy included a book, a movie, and a vandalized statue
Does it have to be a biography? Please look at The Woman's Building (Chicago) :) --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:04, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
File:Woman's Building Lemaire poster.png
- Ulanda Mtamba Malawian who made BBC 100 women but almost failed to get an article
- Hyuro Argentine mural artist who featured mistreatment of women
- Ajna Jusić is an Bosnia and Herzegovina advocate for children, like herself, who were born after rape during war.
- He Xiangning was a Chinese feminist who featured at Did You know on International Women's Day in 2016
- Theresa Kachindamoto someone makes you a tradional chief ... so why not dissolve 1000s of child marriages?
- Jessie Kenney and Adela Pankhurst you should know the last mames - they started militancy
- Martha D. Lincoln co-founder of the world's first chartered woman's press organization --Rosiestep (talk) 14:44, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
- Katherine Stewart MacPhail, Scottish surgeon who founded Serbia's first children's hospital --Rosiestep (talk) 15:09, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
:Another possible candidate for the "other 98" is Eunice Newton Foote (American scientist, inventor, and women's rights campaigner). -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 15:30, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- and Paulina Irby pairs up with Rosie's proposal Victuallers (talk) 14:58, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
;other stuff
- The Woman's Building (Chicago) - In 1892 a bunch of women created, built and filled a building at the World's Fair
- Eagle House (suffragette's rest) - Memorial to the leading suffragettes - which they bulldozed
- The very successful year long initiative on Sufferage. Hat tip to Victuallers (UK) and Megalibrarygirl (US). Was this the most successful WiR year-long initiative so far?
:*While Suffrage was indeed a very successful year-long initiative with 573 articles, the most successful so far was the Education year-long initiative with 1,074 articles. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:22, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
::* I happily stand corrected on this. 1,074 articles! --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 15:47, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
::: Who were your favourites? Victuallers (talk) 09:37, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
:::: During the editathon I created a short article on the Holloway brooch. It has had many contributors over the years and many views. I learned so much about the UK suffrage movement by doing the research (a lot more than was reflected in the article). Another article I created on a suffragist was not created during year-long initiative. I had more than a year's worth of interest in the subject. I created Ida Mae Thompson in 2022. She has stuck in my mind as a representative of the suffrage movement in the United States. Not a big name, but was one of the women who kept the movement going. She stands in the shadows of Lila Meade Valentine and Adele Goodman Clark who easily took a place in Virginia history. I can imagine Thompson at her typewriter getting stuff done in the background. In the 30s she was tasked by WPA to do research. She assembled quite a history of the Virginia suffrage movement in a uniquely effective way...she contacted people she knew, and asked them to look in their attics for primary source documents. What are your favorites? --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:03, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
::::: Thanks WAU -I am still collating a list. Nokutela Dube just occurred to me. She would have been much more well known in South Africa, but she was cast aside because she didnt have children. Victuallers (talk) 10:52, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::: Other stuff: Duxhurst Industrial Farm Colony, England's first industrial farm colony for alcoholic women. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:49, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::::outdent Just to add I'll be at Wikimania too!!! In terms of a book, I'll get back in touch with a publisher who got in touch with me last year and pass the details on Lajmmoore (talk) 08:38, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
:Lajmmoore (and anyone) that'd be cool. I have moved this page to here as it looked as if it was going to be archived soon and I want to polish it for a talk I'm giving next week. Feel free to edit it there, .... anyone? Oh and and I was wondering .... should be joint author this piece with all the women in red editors? Victuallers (talk) 15:08, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
Malawi
:If anyone hasn't noticed, I've taken an interest in Malawi, which is a southern African ex-British colony (60 years ago) around the huge Lake Malawi. Its a country that needs a lot of help, a lot of help on-line and a lot of help to improve the profile of women. English is the first language but less that half the population speak it and the other languages fare no better. Primary education is available but not everyone can afford it even though it is nominally free. Young girls get married. Secondary education is a luxury. I would like to launch a project to help but it needs more IMO than being our theme for a month. So I've been working on it as a pre-project. Getting the governance is important and I have teamed up with a Malawian academic who is also a Wikipedian and at present working in Scotland. She speaks Malawi's second language Chichewa and there is a Wikipedia in that, and the third language.
:We have both become members of the Scotland Malawi Partnership (SMP) which is an umbrella charity which oversees all the joint partnership projects. (The two countries have had a friendship that dates back to David Livingstone.) Our emerging Wikiproject has negotiated with the SMP and they agreed on Friday that they will in future use cc-by-sa!. This is a coup as this gives us access to hundreds of images. We plan to launch this project and we're looking for people and organisations to support us. The SMP, Rotary International and Women in Red seems like a good start. We have a roundtable proposal for Wikimania. We really need a Wikidata person so that we can measure our progress (a la WIR). I'm also trying to reach out to OpenStreetMap editors. So, can I assume WIR's backing? Any comments or suggestions? Any offers of help? Thanks for listening. Roger aka Victuallers (talk) 14:50, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
::Victuallers, what is your project aiming to do? I tried the link for your Wikimania proposal, but it wanted my email and even then I couldn't see the proposal. TSventon (talk) 17:04, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
:::Oh not sure why. It usually takes me straight in - the abstract reads
"Malawi has over ten languages, with English as the official and widely used second language. Wikipedia currently has articles about Malawi in English, Chichewa, and Chitumbuka, but content is limited, especially in local languages. Our project aims to improve the representation of notable Malawian women, together with related places, organizations, and institutions, in all three languages. This is part of our pre-work. We believe the Wikimedia community could have a substantial influence by sharing positive stories about Malawi and its people. The project will be conducted remotely to maximise participation and will be done with Malawians to ensure accurate representation. While existing Wikiprojects focus on East and Southern Africa and African women, the Wikiproject Malawi remains dormant. Our proposal aims to revive it with a distinct gender bias. The aim of this roundtable session is to share best practices and explore collaborative opportunities to ensure the project's success." I have added about thirty articles so far just to understand the barriers. Very often the reliable sources are talking about hunger and poverty as if thats the whole story. Images are a big one, you also find that she was born in a place thats not on OSM/wiki and she's head of a university that has no article. So we know that it will be more than just notable women. HTH Victuallers (talk) 17:35, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
::I've always thought the best use of WMF money would be helping to digitize offline media in underrepresented countries. I don't know if this would be feasible for SMP, but if they have ties with Malawian newspapers/journals/archivists perhaps they could write a grant proposal to WMF to fund a project scanning papers and hosting them online. JoelleJay (talk) 20:11, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
:::Thanks JoelleJay -digitizing would be good. The SMP have funds - they dont bid - we could. Making a bid for Malawian newspaper digitalisation would be interesting. Do you have any figures on the amount of stuff we are talking about? How many were there historically and what proportion are extant and off-line? I just found out that Wikidata items (with Malawi in the country property) gives 4,533 results and there are just over 1,000 Malawian citizens on Wikipedia. Big thanks to Edward who visited Scotland last Saturday. We have a needle ... just need to move it! Victuallers (talk) 08:12, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
::::No idea what the numbers would be, but even focusing on just one newspaper would be a big boost. JoelleJay (talk) 00:18, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
:::@JoelleJay and @Victuallers, I have submitted a proposal twice to digitize newspaper articles in English and two local languages but have not been successful. I would be happy to revise the proposal and try again. These newspapers also contain interviews and articles about notable people, and could be a valuable resource for Wiki articles, especially given the limited available information on people in Malawi. Nakhwinda (talk) 08:55, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
::::@Nakhwinda, yes, digitizing would be a huge win for the encyclopedia and for Malawi! It's bizarre they wouldn't fund that. JoelleJay (talk) 00:15, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
Two Requests
Would someone be able to review an article I had written about a Novel by Hannah Lalhlanpuii. Link to the said article: Draft:When Blackbirds Fly (book)
Also I am hoping to work on women from Northeast India. Although Northeastern Indian society is largely matriarchal and egalitarian, its people often receive little to no coverage, let alone recognition. In essence, we are a minority among minorities. Therefore, I would like to request a special tag for a subproject dedicated to women from this region. Flyingphoenixchips (talk) 22:59, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
Tekedra Mawakana
Hello! I have submitted a COI edit request to address some recent changes made to the article about American chief executive and lawyer Tekedra Mawakana, which can be reviewed on the Talk page. The request seeks to remove personal information that is not based on secondary coverage, if any project members are interested in taking a look. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 14:40, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
:sure, I am having a look Flyingphoenixchips (talk) 03:29, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
Marcy Rheintgen
Please can I have some help creating an article for Marcy Rheintgen who was arrested after washing her hands in a Florida State Capitol bathroom while being transgender, part of Florida's dont say gay laws. I've collated what I think are enough references to cover notability, please feel free to edit my sandbox page directly.
User:John Cummings/Articles/Marcy Rheintgen
Thanks
John Cummings (talk) 21:21, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
:It is WAY too soon for an article on this person, and I strongly, strongly urge you not to publish this. Notability requires sustained coverage, and this definitely doesn't pass BLP1E (and potentially could violate BLP in general as it's entirely on a negative experience of a private person ). JoelleJay (talk) 00:23, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
New Articles
I am pleased to announce that two new articles have been created: Grace Lyu Collins and Shania Yan. Would appreciate your alls help in expanding and improving these articles. I have been hoping to create an article for Atokili Yepthomi,https://www.instagram.com/atokili_yepthomii/ a young girl from Nagaland but so far the sources are only in indigenous languages and not english. Most of them again are in print form. This would perhaps be WP:TOOSOON but hopefully would be able to work on it, when time comes. Flyingphoenixchips (talk) 03:20, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

Wikidata and Sister Projects: an online event
Hello WiR project members, I’m reaching out to ask if Women in Red would be interested in hosting a session at an upcoming online conference Wikidata and Sister Projects; which is focused on how Wikidata connects or supports Wikipedia, Commons, and the other Wikimedia projects.
The event will run from May 29 to June 1, with 3–4 hours of programming each day, divided into 30-minute or 1-hour slots.
I hope this would be a great opportunity to showcase how Wikidata supports your project—whether through structured data, tools, or workflows that assist in article creation, (perhaps something like using ListeriaBot or Wikidata-generated lists to track missing articles and guide editors in bridging content gaps). We would love for you to share your experiences, highlight useful tools, or present any Wikidata-related initiatives that have helped advance Women in Red’s mission.
If you’re interested in hosting a session, please submit your proposal here: Session Proposal template. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! Looking forward to your thoughts.
- Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 13:02, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
:Hello @Danny Benjafield (WMDE) thanks so much for this. I think @Oronsay has presented on how we use Wikidata elsewhere? It seems like a great thing for Women in Red to be involved in. I'm struggling for time at the moment as I'm finishing my phd, but perhaps @Rosiestep or @Victuallers might have time too? I know there are lots of others who are expert! Lajmmoore (talk) 13:31, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
::: Thanks for the ping, Lajmmoore and hi, Danny Benjafield (WMDE). I have a WikiPortrait photoshoot during that period, but June 1 is possibly okay. I'll take a look at the "Session Proposal template" later today. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:39, 15 April 2025 (UTC)

Request for review and help publishing sandbox article: Lucy Chen
Hi there,
I’m Lucy Chen, an executive coach, speaker, and author. In 2025, I received a Gracie Award Honorable Mention for audiobook narration in the Digital Media – National category. My book Build Resilience: Live, Learn, and Lead has earned four national book awards, including recognition from Readers’ Favorite, the PenCraft Seasonal Book Awards, the Golden Door Awards, and the International Impact Book Awards. I was also honored to speak at SXSW 2025.
I’ve created a draft Wikipedia article about myself using only independent, third-party sources, and I’d like to kindly request that a neutral editor review it and, if appropriate, help move it into article space.
I’m passionate about increasing the visibility of women and underrepresented voices on Wikipedia, and I hope this article contributes to that effort.
Here’s the draft in my sandbox:

I understand Wikipedia’s conflict of interest guidelines and want to ensure the article meets notability and neutrality standards.
Thank you very much for your time and support!
Warm regards,

:Hi Lucy! I am not an admin, but I know there could be some issues if you made an article about yourself on Wikipedia. There is a page about it. Also, try to add some secondary sources that provide better coverage of your background to help the admins establish notability. There is not enough information for that based on the sources you have in the article now.

New draft: Jane Skripnik
Hi! I created a new draft as a replacement for an old draft with some issues, based on the recommendation of some editors. Looking for help on it, for my class. I am doing articles on Romanian women. Thank you in advance. Draft:Jane Skripnik
Short summary on the sources I am confident in:
: I consider source 1- the National Press Agency to be the most reliable source. It was published in English and there is a similar article, but a little language available in Romanian language. English Article sources 1 translated in Romanian Language . National Agency reports on the activity of Moldovan government. It is highly unusual to cover an individual. This is the sources I am the most confident, because they are required by the law to upheld to the fact checking the journalistic code.
: Source 2- Știri.md is described as as platform ranked Online News Media. I do not find any red flags with it, rather than just reporting on the news. It is referring to a primary source- this one https://youngones.org/jury/-judge/jane-skripnik
: Source 6-"Povestea unei tinere din Moldova. - Unica.md it is actually a printed magazine. But they re-post news online too. It is the fist female magazine in the country, with over 100.000 readers. I am confident in this sources, as they are required by law to disclose promotional articles.
: Source 7 Zugo.md is describe as an Independent Broadcasting & media production company focused on youth news. It is ranked 2# most visited news platforms for youth after diez.md.
: Source 10, is Telegraph Moldova - Press Agency, having local presence with collaboration from The Telegraph UK. It is a secondary press agency's article, which is based on several other courses, including source 1.
: I kept source 9, because it might be helpful for readers. It is an interview piece, by the subject, in an industry respected outlet, DIVA, with established editorial policies and fact checking.
: I removed IMDB from the old draft. The original old draft version contacted IMDB page as a reference and practically nothing else. IMDb is by no means considered a reliable source for Wikipedia. Plus, the page is not edited, has no biography, and has no picture, which means it is not claimed by the subject in the first place.
Full old discussion I had Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red#Question about draft Moondust342 (talk) 07:32, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
:Moondust342 A couple of questions: reading through the comments in "Question about draft" section your refer to, it appears several seasoned editors and hard-core inclusionists are mentoring you away from this topic. Why are you persisting? What class is this for, and is a published article part of your grade? Educators are strongly advised not to use the need for a published article for grades. Most especially BLPs. Awaiting your response. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:35, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
::Hi @WomenArtistUpdates! My apologies, I did not include our recent discussion with the editors. Basically, I took on to edit draft that fit the topic I needed. It was denied 5 or so times over a year ago and abandoned by some blocked user. I replaced information from it, and 99% of the sources. Old denial were confusing many editors and me including. Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion#Draft: Jane Skripnik
::I do not have many subjects I found for my class, but I will need to show that I have submitted some decent Wikipedia drafts related to my topic. We actually had some kind of coordinator representing Wikipedia, from education Wikipedia helping students last year, but I could not find that person. Students do not usually save some random contacts from classes. Moondust342 (talk) 04:03, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
:::@Moondust342 Have you changed your editor name? If you were part of a course last year you should have put a template on your user page to say so, and there should be links to your user page from pages about the course. PamD 07:43, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
::::I wasn't in that class. Some friend of a friend was. I think it was Ian or something. Students do not care much about their Wikipedia account for class after it is over. But that is how I know there is some kind of education team on wikipedia. Moondust342 (talk) 17:44, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- For me, Draft:Jane Skripnik just doesn't look notable. Johnbod (talk) 17:51, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- :I think "activists" in general is a tricky category. Someone who builds 20 libraries in a small country and runs a branch of an international youth organization can be notable within a small region of the world. There are local secondary sources that provide coverage — the strongest being the government press agency, which is actually what led me to the subject in the first place.
- :I wouldn’t feel confident creating a Wikipedia page on the Romanian Wikipedia, though, because my language skills aren’t that strong. At first, I considered https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagina_principal%C4%83, but I cannot write something from the scratch in Romanian language. Moondust342 (talk) 18:53, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- ::Pinging Brianda (Wiki Ed) since Moondust342 above and here states this is part of class and it appears they need to choose a different topic. Moondust342 please provide the details about the class so Brianda can help you. S0091 (talk) 19:08, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- :::Thank you @S0091, appreciate your help! Hi Brianda. I am from Claremont McKenna College, class : Women in Third World. From my friends, I know that Wikipedia has some kind of editors helping students, students at my college received help in the past. I apologize for any inconvenience, but it makes it quite difficult for me to find a subject. It’s not like I can just Google, “women who are notable in a specific third-world countries and don’t have a Wikipedia page.” I saw governmental press agency sources and went after it. Moondust342 (talk) 19:22, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- ::::@Moondust342 Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Redlist index is a list of lists of women who don't have English wikipedia pages, categorised by occupation, country, etc - it might give you some ideas (there is no guarantee that any of them are really WP:NOTABLE, you need to consider each case, but someone somewhere has thought them worth adding to WikiData and in most cases there is a column showing how many other Wikipedias include an article on her, which can help). PamD 20:13, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- :::::@PamD, Thank you, I saw it. That is how I discovered this project in the first place, as I was looking for women for the project. I did not know it exists. This list is very helpful to many editors. I've made some small contributions to some drafts then and there, discussed by editors here. I am planning to contribute a lot to women who lived 100+ years ago when I have time, because I love history, and also major in history. Moondust342 (talk) 21:07, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

Get Annie Hadley into main space?
"H" is for Annie Hadley. My article was moved to draft - can anyone help me get Annie Hadley published?
Annie Hadley was a chief cutter on many oscar-winning films. Her work was recognised within the film industry as outstanding, and her creations will be recognised by cinema fans from the 1980s to 2010s. However, as a craftswoman in the male-dominated world of filmmaking, Annie has not been featured in books on the subject or major features. I have located several interviews and features in broadsheet papers, plus mentions in trade press and credits in films and books.
Any ideas on establishing notability - does the article need to be written with some more emphasis? Please see a similar role held by a man with no apparent issues: Terry English
Thank you all FilmCostumes (talk) 11:39, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
:Sorry here's the link to AH Draft:Annie Hadley FilmCostumes (talk) 11:40, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
::FilmCostumes the reason the article was moved to draft was that the article apparently didn't have enough sources to establish notability, so you need to work on the sources first, rather than the wording of the article. As you probably know, you need to find (WP:BASIC). Could you highlight WP:THREE or four sources which would contribute to notability? TSventon (talk) 12:12, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
:::Hi, thanks for the help. As I tried to explain above, the nature of Hadley's work mean that multiple smaller mentions need to be complied to demonstrate the longevity and notability of her career - viz. WP:BASIC If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability. However, 4 key sources to highlight might be:
:::# "The Costumier who is dyeing for a change in career". The Stage. 5 June 1986. p. 26. This is a major profile of Hadley from the trade newspaper The Stage. Includes most biographical info used in the Wiki article.
:::# Daspin, Eileen (1996-12-15). "Cry Only for What Peron Really Wore". The New York Times. This includes interview comments with Hadley, but also review/commentary on costume for the film.
:::# "The Emperor's New Clothes". The Kerryman. 27 May 1988. p. 26. This article accounts Hadley's work on The Last Emperor film when it won Best Costume Oscar.
:::# "Emperor's Clothes Bring Film Glory". Evening Argus. 12 April 1988. p. 3. As above - another feature on Hadley & The Last Emperor
:::FilmCostumes (talk) 12:32, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
::::Those sources aren't available online (or not available without entering an email for the NYT), could you add how much coverage of Hadley and her work they have? The Kerryman and the Evening Argus are local papers writing about local people, so they are not as useful as national media. TSventon (talk) 14:35, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::Yes, agreed - national media would be brilliant but as we know, women's creative works are harder to source! I've managed to find quite a few local newspapers from different areas of England & NI to establish spread of reporting. Also film & fashion publications and broadsheets (Sources 1 & 2 above).
:::::Sources 3 & 4 above are based on the Oscars results so they describe the processes of making costumes, interviews with Hadley's employees, brief summaries of her career, and images of the workroom. They focus entirely on the making of the costumes. These sources are available through British Newspapers Online - though paywalled. FilmCostumes (talk) 07:45, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
::::::It's really frustrating to see so many page like this one with next-to-no sourcing - James Haldane O'Hare! FilmCostumes (talk) 07:49, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::::"James Haldane O'Hare" was created in 2009, when standards were probably lower. A version of New Pages Patrol was started in 2011, for example. TSventon (talk) 13:17, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
::::::::Would you be happy to review the article again, now i've made edits and provided info on sources? thank you :-) FilmCostumes (talk) 21:10, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- The trouble here is that the designer gets all the glory, and awards, not the Chief Cutter. But you should play up things like her BAFTA award acceptance speech. Personally I think there is enough there already. Terry English has various extra points, and presumably is his own designer. Johnbod (talk) 13:51, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- :Thanks Johnbod. I have edited the article a bit as you suggest plus included a definition of "chief cutter". Also added filmography as they seem to appear often on maker's pages. FilmCostumes (talk) 07:25, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
- :Hi Johnbod, noted that you think there is 'enough there already' :-) would you be happy to approve the Annie Hadley article now and move to main space? thanks! FilmCostumes (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
Simple EN-WP
Does anyone here have experience with it? Besides writing in simpler language, are there policy differences between it and EN-WP? Might there be some articles within the scope of WiR at EN-WP Articles for Creation, that are stuck there but would be okay for Simple EN-WP? -- Rosiestep (talk) 23:05, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
:I've only had one major interaction with Simple Wikipedia and it was...not great. It was back during this discussion and this Afd (RfD over there). Apparently it's commonplace over there to delegitimize non-English sources as contributing to notability and also the idea of having to look for sources at all? That was the impression I got, at least. SilverserenC 23:31, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
:::Simple:Wikipedia:Notability (people) looks similar to Wikipedia:Notability (people). Simple en seems to be a much smaller project, with 75,000 bios rather than 2 million, so adding bios that are not notable on en Wikipedia would not necessarily help their project.
::Asilvering seemed knowledgeable when Simple EN-WP was discussed a few weeks ago. TSventon (talk) 14:35, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
:::Rosiestep I spent some time working on Simple English Wikipedia in the Summer of 2023. The criteria for notability are the same as English Wikipedia. The oversight is not quite as robust as on English Wikipedia, but the effect would be to "sneak" pages onto Simple English Wikipedia. BTW - it is hard to write for Simple English Wikipedia! You have to use a different composing part of your brain. I liked working over there, but it was a learning curve to write for that audience. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 14:38, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
::::To add to what others have said, I wouldn't recommend doing this, but I really would not recommend doing this for BLPs in particular. Fewer active patrollers means dodgy changes are more likely to stick, and the smaller editor base will tend to make it less likely that anyone will ever update an article if you don't as the original drafter. -- asilvering (talk) 18:41, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

:I've been adding the ones with pictures to the WiR pinterest board for April. It's a lot! Penny Richards (talk) 14:11, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
::Rather than going through them all manually, once the contest is over it should be possible to see how many were related to women on the basis of the categories in the articles or perhaps the wikiprojects on the talk pages. Does anyone know how to obtain results along these lines?--Ipigott (talk) 12:29, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
:::It looks like 331 women's bios destubbed so far, out of 1,002 articles listed. That shows about a third of the articles listed are women's bios and, if the current productivity is maintained, a thousand women's bios could be destubbed in the course of the competition. TSventon (talk) 17:10, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
::::A bunch of those women bio destubs are mine. I won't have the same productivity for the rest of the month, I don't think. I have a few left to expand from Ladies in the lab III, but have done all the ones in the other sources I had (Dictionary of Women in Science, vols I and II, and International Women in Science: a biographical dictionary to 1950). So now I am reduced to Googling for sources for bios I find through stub categories, which is a lot slower. Very happy to be pointed at any good resources if anyone has a bunch of stubs they'd like expanded with a source I can get hold of! DrThneed (talk) 00:08, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::DrThneed, if you want another encyclopedia, you could try the Biographical Dictionary of Swedish Women. Is there an easy way to find stubs related to an encyclopedia? TSventon (talk) 23:18, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
::::::That's a good question @TSventon! I was really lucky that @Rosiestep had made this redlist for one half of the Biographical Dictionary of Women in Science that isn't Wikidata generated, ie it includes all the blue links as well as the red. It is so useful, and made me wish we had more lists that include the created articles as well as the red ones. So I was able to click all of those to find the stubs (there's a few left still stubs as I have focused on certain countries, and also cos some entries just aren't long enough to support >1500b of article). I took photos of the contents for the other volume and turned it into an open refine project to find some stubs from the other volume. I don't have it completely matched to Wikidata yet (in order to find those with articles, and then in order to find the length of those articles), but at some point I'll try to finish it and turn that into a list like Rosie's that we can all see.
::::::Otherwise I've made my worklists by getting hold of a decent source (eg Norton/Grove women composers) and working through the stub category for those articles in a certain country. It's a bit tedious! And then Petscan is good for finding articles that are shorter than a certain size but not tagged as stubs.
::::::Thanks for the tip for the Swedish women's biographical dictionary - I'm on Romania at the moment, and will turn my attention to Sweden when I can! DrThneed (talk) 00:04, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::::DrThneed, I tried going to Wikidata and getting a list of items linked to the BDSW item and then copying the list back into en Wikipedia, so I suppose that is similar to Rosie's list. There are 2,000 articles in the encyclopedia, so the list is quite long. TSventon (talk) 00:37, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::Dr. Blofeld up to now (according to my list as of 11:59 today) 501 women's bios have been destubbed. TSventon (talk) 12:20, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
::::::That's awesome TSventon, appreciate you counting! 501 articles in 13 days has got to be a record for women article improvements. Sorry Ipigott and co that they're not new articles!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:50, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::::But some of them are practically new, even if they aren't turning up as new in stats; some of those destubbed biographical articles were formerly one-sentence microstubs. Penny Richards (talk) 14:27, 15 April 2025 (UTC)

The Core Contest—Wikipedia's most exciting contestcn—returns again this year from April 15 to May 31. Last year I suggested that the 12-year streak without any woman nominated, should become a 12-year streak with women present each year. Will somebody oblige?
The goal of TCC: to improve vital or other core articles, with a focus on those in the worst state of disrepair. Editing can be done individually, but in the past groups have also successfully competed. Winners are those who provide "best additive encyclopedic value", judged by the amount of improvement and 'coreness' of articles. Signups are open now. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 18:28, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
Margarethe Lyman Dwight
I stumbled on this woman's history and it's quite interesting. Could someone start an entry on her? Here's a writeup on her. Thanks!!! FloridaArmy (talk) 12:00, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
: If someone picks it up now, great; I'm waiting for my newspapers.com access to be restored (eight days and counting, gaaaaah), so I'm holding off starting new articles until then. (I'm only destubbing, which is less frustrating right now.) If it's still waiting when that happy day arrives, I'll have a look. Penny Richards (talk) 13:08, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
:I've added her to wikidata Q133865810 because her father's name is Gamaliel and I'm a fan of people named Gamaliel. Gamaliel (talk) 18:25, 13 April 2025 (UTC)

Requesting help with the article for Marcy Rheintgen
Hi all
Please could I have some help with an article I just published. I think its likely that the article may be vandalised and nominated for deletion etc given the political climate in the US, especially in Florida. Marcy Rheintgen was the first person to be arrested and jailed under an anti-trans law for washing her hands in a women's bathroom in the Florida State Capitol building.
Many thanks

::Hi Flyingphoenixchips, I'm sure you're not :) I've moved it to being about the arrest to avoid rules about BLP for now, but it still falls under Women in Red I think. I'd very much appreciate any help anyone would like to give to it. John Cummings (talk) 18:32, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
Draft: Mary Rawlinson
Would anyone be willing to assist with this draft? It's my first new article so looking for some assistance :) KingLeonid1 (talk) 21:22, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
:Book reviews are what you need. Since I don't think the article will be accepted at AfC as it is now. First off, you need to go through the Bibliography section and make sure all the things listed there are actually published books by her. Remove any ones that are just papers. See my article on Nancy Stepan for a good way to format that. It's basically a Cite book template with the Author-mask parameter on. You can also see from how I've organized the references there in the Bibliography section on one method to keep a bunch of book review sources tidy, though you don't have to do it that way if you prefer not to. Then you need to just Google search Rawlinson's name alongside each of her books and look for academic reviews of them (and news reviews, if any happen to exist). I searched her name along with The Betrayal of Substance and found this and this on the first page of results. ::Thank you! KingLeonid1 (talk) 15:50, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
:::Just a reminder @KingLeonid1 that the further reading at the bottom can't be bare links - it needs to be formatted like the bibliography too, it's something really easy to overlook Lajmmoore (talk) 07:28, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
Monthly newsletter template
I wanted to bring up the white background of the newsletter template not working with dark mode on Wikipedia. What can be done about that? Thanks. I just went and removed the white background for another template and it works fine without it being set like that. —DIYeditor (talk) 05:08, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
:Hi DIYeditor. Thanks for noticing the problem and fixing it! --Rosiestep (talk) 05:30, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
::Before I go poking around I wanted to make sure it is ok with everyone that I remove the forced white background. Does anyone know the location of that template offhand? —DIYeditor (talk) 22:59, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
:::Hi DIYeditor. Can you provide a link to an example of the "newsletter" you refer to? Thanks. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:54, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
::::It's all over your talk page. —DIYeditor (talk) 00:02, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
::::: DIYeditor, I think WomenArtistUpdates means can you provide a link to "another template" that you removed the white background from?
::::: I haven't tried producing the WiR news letter, but the instructions are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Ideas#Basic overview of tasks using March 2024 as a guide. TSventon (talk) 00:35, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
TSventon I don't see the newsletter mentioned specifically there. It's a about real world meetups and events as far as I can tell. Maybe these end up in the newsletter.
Basically this is being put on every WIR member's talk pages every month, and it is presumably being subst: from a template somewhere. I just need to find that template:
:
:
:
It may be as simple as removing
from the template. This is as far as I understand a basic part of implementing "dark mode" on Wikipedia. If it's a bot doing it from off Wikipedia, the bot needs to stop putting that white background. It's a significant accessibility issue. —DIYeditor (talk) 05:15, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
Ok I see that the newsletter is called "Outreach". It is genereated by the Wikipedia MassMessage facility. What you linked does relate to that. I'm not clear if there is a template or if the newsletter is simply being copied by hand on e.g. Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Outreach/2024#March 2024 —DIYeditor (talk) 05:36, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
I've removed the background from the May 2025 version. —DIYeditor (talk) 05:42, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
- oh, the invitation! Thanks for removing the hard-coded
. As you figured out, we create this month's invitation from last month's invitation, not a template (no subst:). If you've got May 2025 ADA compliant, it should be considered updated for invitations going forward. For those following at home - Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Outreach/2025 and historical invitations are filed under the appropriate year. Thank you DIYeditor and TSventon. I don't have a way to test dark mode, so I am assuming it looks ok. There is no change on my screen. It look fine--WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 14:37, 23 April 2025 (UTC)background-color: #FFFFFF;

Edeline Lee
The Edeline Lee biography needs refs for the awards, etc. If someone who has access to UK sources could help with this, I'd be appreciative. -- Rosiestep (talk) 19:56, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

DYK potential: Hazel Vincent Wallace
Hello! I plucked 'Hazel Beatrice Wallace' from the redlist for this month's A to Z. I've created a page under her more commonly used name of Hazel Vincent Wallace. Given the length of it, and the number of sources, I'd like to nominate it for a DYK in the next few days. Wallace is said to be the first woman to have a new theatre built in Britain.
I can sort out a redirect from her birth name, and start linking to it from quite a number of pages. And dig in the newpaper archives for more details.
The one thing I've never mastered is connecting the wikidata entry, which in this case isn't helped by her preferred name. Could someone help me connect https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q130236536 with the biog?
I don't want it failing a DYK nomination because I'm rubbish at a bit of admin!
EEHalli (talk) 18:42, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
:EEHalli, I have added a Wikipedia link to the Wikidata item and tidied up the English language description in Wikidata. There is a short Youtube instruction video by DrThneed here. I don't think DYK is interested in the Wikidata item, but if you make the link yourself it stops a bot creating a duplicate item. You could nominate the article now, but you have seven days. Ideally suggest a couple of different hooks as DYK admins are wary of claims of firstness. TSventon (talk) 20:23, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
::Thanks!
::EEHalli (talk) 21:14, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
:::The DYK nomination is now up here: Template:Did you know nominations/Hazel Vincent Wallace
:::Thank you to all the editors who have made tweaks to it over the last few days. I honestly didn't expect it to be such a rich article when I started! EEHalli (talk) 20:13, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
Time 100 women
Hi all, I just threw together articles on Cordelia Bähr and Julie Burkhart, two women without articles who were listed on Time 100 2025. They, particularly Bähr's article, are somewhat bare bones so any help would be appreciated. I get the impression that Bähr has some more coverage in German, which I cannot read. Cheers, Eddie891 Talk Work 08:57, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
:I've slightly expanded Bahr, from a source which is a portrait of her in her alumni magazine - but my German isn't up to much. Got her approx date of birth, and the fact that she's an alumna. PamD 11:12, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
Submission Declined - Seeking Advice on Edits
The following draft was declined: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ann_Orel
Details: This draft's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article. In summary, the draft needs to
meet any of the eight academic-specific criteria
or cite multiple reliable, secondary sources independent of the subject, which cover the subject in some depth
Do you think she meets notability requirements? If so, how might we show that on her page? Edenraviv (talk) 12:38, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
:Hi Edenraviv the same question was asked in March, you can see the detailed answers here. MerielGJones, you did a lot of work on the article, do you think it is ready to be resubmitted? TSventon (talk) 14:34, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

Recommended edits while pending approval?
Hello! While this draft is pending approval, does anyone recommend any changes to increase chance of meeting notability requirements?
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Angela_Fan Edenraviv (talk) 15:24, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
:My suggestion would be to trim the minor details to focus on the major accomplishments and major career steps. In the current version you can't see the forest for the weeds. I think she does pass WP:PROF#C1 for heavily cited contributions, but that's a difficult case to make for draft reviewers. —David Eppstein (talk) 18:58, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
Submission declined—looking for advice on edits to make
The following draft was declined:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Karen_Schindler
Details:
This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms that promote the subject.
Does anyone know which language in particular might be causing the problem? Edenraviv (talk) 15:54, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
:I think it might be the frequency of the text saying "she says" since that is language you typically find in interviews and press releases (ie Puffery). It also means that everything that follows is being read as what she claims to have done, not what secondary sources say she's done.
:I'm also not sure mentoring is worth including since I believe most academics do it as part of their work?
Orphan Article
Hello! This article is marked as an orphan (no other articles link to it). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Shandor_Miles
Any advice on how to resolve this? It also says it needs more specific sections... any advice on what that may look like?
Thanks! Edenraviv (talk) 16:20, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
:So how I de-orpahn articles @Edenraviv is to click on the existing blue links and add a sentence somewhere in the linked article, that then links back to the original - so here for example if her college has an alumni list you could add her to it, using the references from the original article. Lajmmoore (talk) 18:38, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
:: Edenraviv, my rule of thumb is to never create an orphan (to avoid some other editor placing the orphan-template on the subject's page). How I accomplish this is by creating a redlink in the subject's given name and/or surname article(s) before saving my first edit on the new biography. As for Margaret's biography, I see that the article is no longer an orphan, but ditto to what Lajmmoore noted, for example, adding Margaret here: Miles (surname), List of Boston College people#Notable Boston College alumni, List of University of Pittsburgh alumni, List of University of Missouri–Kansas City people#Notable alumni. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:38, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
