Hi there. It's great you want to contribute to Wikipedia. However, I'm noticing that your contributions include links to different entries on https://www.aboriginal-bark-paintings.com. It appears that this is a commercial site selling art, and it is not clear why Wikipedia should treat it as a reliable source. There may also be a separate issue, if you are Richard Aldridge (or a person close to him), in which case you might want to check out policy on conflicts of interest, and consider suggesting edits on talk pages instead of putting them in the encyclopedia. I also came across at least one example where the link has been added as an external link in the body text, in violation of WP policy. Perhaps the best thing you could do would be to replace as far as possible the bark paintings website citations with secondary sources from the literature that won't run into any issues with the reliable sources policy.

Don't get me wrong - some of your changes, in terms of content, are valuable. But the sourcing is a potentially major issue, that I wanted to flag for you. Have a look at the links I mentioned, and message me if you want clarification. hamiltonstone (talk) 11:25, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

It appears that almost all the edits that you made to Wikipedia linked to one of your websites, without making your conflict of interest clear. Both hamiltonstone and I posted here on your talk page asking whether these were your websites, and asking you to stop, but you failed to reply. After the initial query and two warnings, I blocked you to prevent you from continuing to edit without a discussion.

Are you editing Wikipedia to contribute to the encyclopedia, or are you here to publicise your websites? If you are here to contribute, there are other websites you can use as references, and some are more authoritative than your own.

You express concern that a "competitor's" website is linked from an article. That link was placed by an editor who also included several other references, one of them to one of your websites, and another to the Australian Museum. They have also edited articles on a wide range of subjects. It does not appear that the link was placed by someone hoping to gain from the action.-gadfium 05:51, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

I need to know how to go forward from here. Am I here to publicize my website? No but I am here to share knowledge on tribal art and aboriginal art and if you look at my articles I hope that becomes clear. For example, my article of Fijian War Clubs is already first in google so doesn't need to be "publicized" and is the best and most authoritative source of information on the web regarding Fijian war clubs. If I want to cite that page but can't do it directly due to conflict of interest what do I do?

I realize I got excited and over cited my site and deserved a smack on the hand. Moving forward can I cite other sites as well as my site or only other sites? How do I put my site forward for consideration for being a reference? As Hamiltonstone said my information is useful as is information in 200 odd articles on my websites that I do not wish to duplicate on wikipedia. Tribal junkie (talk) 07:47, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

:You should mostly cite other sites. Look for websites (or printed material) that cite their own sources - academic papers would be the most authoritative. When you write a passage on your website, you are getting the information from somewhere, and it is better if you say on Wikipedia what that original source is.-gadfium 18:48, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

:: Ok I have tried to do an edit on the Fiji page. I have removed the comment on poison arrows because it isn't something Fijians or Melanesians in general did. I mention they used clubs and that they used two types. I have Cited Fergus Clunie as the written reference and my website as a web reference as it has better pictures and is easier for net readers to read. My website articles include all three references I used putting that article together including Fergus Clunie and notes from the journal of the Polynesian society (Old slightly racist but solid source of information)and Charles Macks book about Polynesian art at auction which had relevant information.

Please check it for me if you get the chance and see if I am now doing it right. There will be overlap between my website articles and my Wikipedia contributions as my area of expertise is driven by my passion and my articles on my website are areas I have researched because they interest me. I think web references are as important as written references because people in villages in places like Papua New Guinea and Fiji have access to the net via mobile phones but do not have access to books.
