April 2025

File:Information.svg Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give :Draft:Jump Up, Super Star! a different title by cutting its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into :Jump Up, Super Star!. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. jlwoodwa (talk) 20:35, 15 April 2025 (UTC)

GA nominations

I'm very concerned that, after how poorly your previous GA nominations have gone so far, you've decided to renominate Wii Chess, an article that two separate editors told you was nowhere near GA level, without making any improvements. The community only has so much patience for making the same mistakes over and over again. I'm pleading with you to rethink this - if you don't improve, you're on the way to getting topic banned or even potentially reblocked. You've got to change your approach. Sergecross73 msg me 00:50, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

:Do you want me to get rid of the GA again? My previous GAs' only got removed because the same inexperienced editor nominated them. Also in the GAN page, nobody really provided any improvement advice or anything. I feel like the article at the moment is fine considering it's the best i can do about an barebones 1st party nintendo article about chess. But, i'll listen to your advice and revert my edits. TzarN64 (talk) 00:54, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

::The problem with articles like Wii Chess is that while they may pass WP:GNG, there isn't enough in-depth coverage of them from multiple reliable sources, either contemporary or retrospective, to develop content that is comprehensive enough to pass WP:GAN despite clearing WP:PERMASTUB. The lack of recent or historical coverage for such articles means that they have little chance of growth on their own, and they may be better off merged into another article to improve the latter's detail; I came to that conclusion when I merged several separate short articles into a general article with Nintendo Entertainment System models, which survived an WP:AFD request with WP:SNOWBALL support. Honestly, Wii Chess was such a low-effort title from Nintendo compared to the other Wii series games that I doubt anything interesting occurred during its development. While I commend you for your effort to improve the article, I think the article itself is at a dead end in terms of content at this point, and that's fine; not every game is going to have an eventful development or material that journalists would be interested in covering, especially for a game as basic as Wii Chess. GAN also isn't really the place to seek advice on content to improve in an article; WP:PR is a more appropriate venue, though even editors there generally expect more in-depth content than what the article provides in its current state. If you really desire some feedback for improving an article, you could create a new topic for soliciting feedback on the article's talk page and then leave a notification for it on WT:VG or another relevant WikiProject's talk page.

::As I advised before, I believe it would be in your best interest to move away from any nominations and just work on improving articles; you'll likely receive advice from more experienced editors anyway as you edit more (so long as they trust you to avoid repeating the same mistake). If you do find yourself in a similar situation where you can't find any more sources to add and reference content to the article you're working on, I'd advise to just move on to a different article; someone else will likely pick up the slack if the article is high-profile enough, and please remember that there is WP:NORUSH with editing on Wikipedia. Also, it doesn't hurt to ask about WP:VG expectations whenever necessary with editors, whether it's through Panini!, Sergecross73, I, or other editors on WT:VG; we were all newcomers to the project at some point. Just don't try to double down on any action that other editors disagree with, especially considering your current WP:1RR restriction; open up a discussion on a given article's talk page if you need to. Other than that, I wish the best of luck to you. CascadeUrbanite (talk) 08:15, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

:::I agree with all of the above. And in addition to CascadeUrbanite's comments about "some articles are just hard to get to GA", which is true, there's honestly a lot of "low-hanging fruit" that needs fixing in an article like Wii Chess. For example.

:::#It has no Development section.

:::#It doesn't follow WP:LEAD or WP:LEADCITE.

:::#The reception section just lists off reviews in a disjointed, unconnected fashion. There's no flow in the prose.

:::#A quick skimming shows at least one source that's classified as unreliable at WP:VG/S.

:::All in all, the article is fine, it's just not really GA level. Check out WP:VG, where there's a ton of current GA's listed. Find some that are more recently passed to find some good examples of what a GA should look like. This is how I learned back in the day, with both video game and music articles. Sergecross73 msg me 13:07, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

::::{{ping|CascadeUrbanite}} {{ping|Sergecross73}} {{ping|TzarN64}} Allow me to preface this with my agreement that you absolutely need to put in more work before bringing this article to GA, and once you do do the work, you should ask an experienced editor whether the article seems like it has cleared the issues mentioned. All that being said, I have found the following sources that can be used:

::Yes, another bad judgement call. Tzar, how can I get it through to you that its important to know the standards before jumping in to things? I would think you'd catch on by now that rushing into things isn't working, but here we are, again. Sergecross73 msg me 14:01, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

::[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:RenkoTheBird&oldid=1286599151#Request This is concerning too], considering that editor [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/RenkoTheBird has less than 300 edits to their name]. Why would you ask such an inexperienced editor to do a GA review? Especially after the troubles you've already had with that. So we've got another GAN in which you 1) are not a primary contributor and 2) attempt to work with an extremely inexperienced editors as a reviewer. Have you learned nothing in these last few weeks? Sergecross73 msg me 16:58, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

:::@Sergecross73, @L ke: I was hoping I would not need to consider this suggestion, but I think a more physical form of communication is needed to achieve a mutual understanding here. As a coincidence, the monthly Seattle Wikipedia meetup is planned to be held tomorrow, so here is my proposal:

:::@TzarN64, I propose that you attend the Seattle meetup tomorrow virtually via one of the voice channels on the WP:Discord server so you can directly ask questions for and receive more direct advice and guidance from me and other editors that are physically attending the meetup; even though I understand it would start at 9 PM EDT for you, I sincerely think your attendance would be vital to avoid another escalation to a re-block. I think an editor who was prolific on Wikipedia at your age (and still is now) is attending the meetup as well, so he could give you some pointers regarding that based on his own experience.

:::@Peaceray, would it be feasible for this editor to attend the meetup virtually? I can have the voice chat enabled on my phone or laptop to facilitate more direct communication between them and us. Also, assuming that the voice chat is feasible, I hereby propose that @Sergecross73, @Panini!, @Cukie Gherkin, and @Jlwoodwa attend the meetup via the voice chat as well to aid with WP:VG representation during the meetup, though I think other experienced editors inside and outside the WikiProject could join if they have any specific advice to give. I sincerely apologize to everyone for putting the suggestion on short notice, but regardless, I hope this general idea of a virtual meetup is considered by all parties involved here before the situation requires further escalation; thank you for your understanding and consideration. CascadeUrbanite (talk) 19:15, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

::::I won't be able to attend. Not that it matters, as I don't think this is the issue. They simply don't seem to be interested in taking advice in the first place. It's been laid out in a very straightforward, easy to understand manner, and they're not asking questions in a manner that suggests confusion. If anyone wishes to talk with them though, go for it. I'd recommend anything be sooner rather than later though, as I imagine its only a matter of time before someone takes it to ANI at this rate. (I don't plan on taking them to ANI personally, but I'd certainly chime in if someone else ends up doing it.) Sergecross73 msg me 19:32, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

::::Hi, CascadeUrbanite. I do not see a reasonable way to effectively teleconference from a noisy environment like Little Oddfellows. Peaceray (talk) 01:16, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

::::I don't really think I have much to contribute here, as I have only a limited interaction - in both instances, I just provided reference ideas for an article the user put into mainspace or attempted to nominate. Cukie Gherkin (talk) 04:19, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

:::::I have a headset if that would be helpful with communication to relay messages from the voice chat. Regardless of whether a meetup teleconference is feasible or not, @TzarN64, I highly implore you to refrain from editing on Wikipedia whatsoever until you have at least directly communicated with me via voice chat so that I can better understand your editing process and possibly give pointers on it; I would prefer talking later this week if the meetup teleconferencing is ultimately unrealized. Should you choose to ignore this offer and continue editing, understand that I will not intervene if you get taken to WP:ANI. Consider this my final offer of an olive branch extension to you; please consider it deeply before you try editing more articles. CascadeUrbanite (talk) 07:49, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

What do you mean, you're always here to help? Why didn't you reply sooner, instead of playing Myspace? Why not use your sandbox to start KineMaster, instead of removing the redirect without any source? Please, take a moment to think of how your actions come across and how I, also a volunteer, am taking the time to write this to you. I want you to help Wikipedia, but I am not seeing it. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 21:58, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

::::I was going to say, I don't think WP:NOTHERE applies, but I do believe WP:IDONTHEARTHAT strongly applies. Its quite apparent Tzar is simply doing whatever they want and not taking the advice of anyone else seriously. I believe the only thing guiding their contributions is honestly their 1RR restriction, which appears to be extremely necessary, as its prevented a lot of bad decisions from sticking, in my opinion. Tzar's actions completely baffle me; even if they don't get reblocked for acting like this, like 90% of their efforts are being undone as it is. They're not accomplishing anything. Driveby GAN on Super Mario 3D All-Stars

File:Information.svg Hi! I noticed that you nominated {{#if:Super Mario 3D All-Stars|the article Super Mario 3D All-Stars |an article}} for Good article status. You do not appear to have made significant edits to the article prior to this, and there is no discussion about nominating the article on its talk page. Current practice is that only editors who have significantly contributed to the article are able to nominate it (see the nomination instructions). I have consequently removed the nomination for now. Consider discussing whether the article is ready to be nominated with the article's principal editors on the talk page. Per Wikipedia:Good article nominations/Instructions you need to have contributed 10% of the page or rank fifth of higher in terms of contributors; [https://xtools.wmcloud.org/pageinfo/en.wikipedia.org/Super_Mario_3D_All-Stars you only have 2.8%] and you clearly just did a major edit to hail Mary being eligible for a GAN. l ke (talkcontribs) 00:03, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

:I disagree, i contributed significantly to the article. And after that GAN i wasnt gonna stop contributing, but i see your point. TzarN64 (talk) 00:21, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

Too long tags

Your tags on United States and Pope Francis have been removed. WP:DRIVEBY tagging (tagging an article with no clear reason) is confusing and not helpful. Explain the article's problems on the talk page or fix them yourself. Thanks. Tarlby (t) (c) 17:57, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
