Question on a reference in our draft
Thank you for the quick helpful feedback on our draft page. I'm trying to understand referencing properly. Are these references acceptable ?

It is a report on an event by a person who was a "visitor" to the event who participated but did not design or make preparations for the event. Does that mean it's primary ? It is the only report on the event that is published and accessible online. Does that mean the event is not notable ?
Australian and New Zealand Physicist - Vol 31 No 03 - March 1994, https://drive.google.com/file/d/13oFOhoKbGi5JUWnj0fhZvIlY5mUoKKN9/ [pdf; page 31, article titled "Earth Satellite Facilities at the University of Canberra"]
This is also the only report on an event that is published and accessible online. Does that mean the event is not notable ? It was published by an organisation that was independent of the parties to the event. Does that mean it is a secondary source ? Endured (talk) 01:00, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
:UPDATE: Sorry, I'm happy to use Teahouse and Afc Help Desk. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Endured (talk • contribs) 02:20, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
:Endured; just trying to understand the situation here. The first reference linked does not talk about upcyc at all. This reference does not seem to support the statement that "the UpCyc was the transmitter for a moon bounce project". I checked page 31 of the second source, and I'm not seeing anything about an "UpCyc" project either.
:Currently the draft says: Is there a source that can corroborate this? It is uncited in the draft as it stands. Utopes (talk / cont) 18:23, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
::Many thanks for the extra feedback. Yes, "UpCyc" is obscure in the current text. For reference, "UpCyc" is a new name assigned by the Project Team in 2024. There are no publicly accessible sources which say "UpCyc" (except Google Maps). The facility has been in place since 1993 but, rarely mentioned after 1997. After 1997, it was one line in University annual reports until 2005. We will probably try to design our Wikipedia page along the same lines as these: Mount Pleasant Radio Observatory. Cheers. Category question
Can you point me to where :Category:Television series by Nickelodeon Animation Studio was requested? It's a pet category for an LTA sockmaster.-- Ponyobons mots 23:42, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
:Was just requested at WP:AFC/C. Apologies for not noticing if there was an LTA involved; other similar categories have existed which might be worth looking into depending on the situation.
:ec Glad you found it! Reopened this because you might want to take a look at :Category:Television series by Calon (TV production company) which was also recently requested, in the AFC/C January 2025 archives if you're inclined to poking around there for similar behavior. A few of these category requests have come through from IPs, I've generally been approving them though. Utopes (talk / cont) 23:49, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
::Cartoon and Nickelodeon redirect and category requests from Chilean IPs are nearly 100% guaranteed to be this LTA. You can usually see that category has been deleted previously and they've figured out a work around at being detected is to get the good folks at WP:AFC/C and WP:AFC/R to unknowingly proxy for them.-- Ponyobons mots 23:59, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
:::Ah, that's good to know. In this case I did not check the deletion logs, I just saw a lot of similarly-constructed category titles and the request made sense and seemed in good faith. The IP who requested the Calon one probably fits the bill as well, which I see now it's been taken care of. Thank you for your diligence! Utopes (talk / cont) 00:02, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
:::User talk:2803:C600:8101:80DD:602A:347A:9823:5DE3 (the requestor of the Calon category) has a lot of warnings already from their brief editing history, so if you need to file that one away for an SPI hopefully that helps a bit. (Looks dormant now though so maybe not...) Utopes (talk / cont) 00:04, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
::::Thanks. They return to that /64 every now and then, so I've blocked it for 3 months. It woud be easier if I could just let you know which sockmaster it is, but privacy policy and all that...-- Ponyobons mots 00:11, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
:::::All good, I'll keep an eye out over at AFC/C and R moving forward. Thanks for the catch, o7 Utopes (talk / cont) 00:14, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
::::::Btw Ponyo they're back in WP:AFC/C, if you wanted to take a gander at the most recent requests. Utopes (talk / cont) 07:32, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
:::::::Thanks Utopes. Is there a centralized noticeboard for AFC/R and AFC/R where a mention can be made along the lines of "please don't create categories or redirects on behalf of Chilean IPs as it's an LTA globally-blocked sockmaster circumventing their ban"?-- Ponyobons mots 16:37, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
::::::::Seems fairly specific haha, not quite sure. The best idea I can think to meet the description is WT:WPAFC, as AFC/R and AFC/C are sub-processes of WPAFC. Utopes (talk / cont) 20:32, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

VC-7 submission
Thank you for your evaluation of the draft article for VC-7. I note that the submissions of the VC-7 draft has been declined. The reason given is that VC-7 is already mentioned in an article about RVAH. In the extensive work I have done researching VC-7, I do believe that VC-7 should have its own article since when the designation of the squadron changed to RVAH, the mission of the squadron also changed. VC-7's mission was to deliver nuclear weapons. This seems to make it very different from RVAH's mission which was photo reconnaissance. In addition, VC-7, like the other heavy attack squadrons were vital to securing the role of the Navy in the post World War II world. Thus, I would like to suggest that VC-7 have a stand alone article. If a stand alone article is not possible, I would like to understand how to incorporate it into the RVAH article. Thank you for your consideration and any suggestions you can give me. Schbrown (talk) 20:27, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
:What I would recommend doing in this situation is to initiate a split-proposal (from WP:SPLIT) rather than creating an article on a topic that already has a section on RVAH-7. If you'd like, I can go ahead and post what you've said here, on the talk page for Talk:RVAH-7, in order to get some input from people who follow the subject and who might be a bit more knowledgeable than I on the situation? You've brought up a fair point that could be worth a discussion. Utopes (talk / cont) 20:32, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
::On second thought, split-proposals can take a long time to resolve, and you've done a lot of work on this in the meantime. What I'll do instead is I can promote the article to mainspace, and if someone disagrees, it can be redirected into RVAH-7. So far what you've said is uncontested, and it is a well-referenced draft, so I'm fine with moving it to mainspace for now. If somebody else redirects it, a discussion can take place about whether two articles are needed here. Thank you for your efforts in putting this together! Utopes (talk / cont) 20:37, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

::Muhammed Ali Rahbari Alright; I've gone ahead and created a user page for you, as well as a user talk page. There are some helpful links on your talk page if you ever need to reference anything, such as for navigating and editing Wikipedia.
::With all of that being said, if you want to create an article, the easiest way to do so is via the Wikipedia Article Wizard. If you click this link, it will take you to the creation wizard, where you can write your article. You have the choice of doing it in a personal sandbox (which would be in your "user space" to be edited by you), or you can create a draft, which would put it in "draft space". Either option is okay, depending on how far you are in the writing process!
::Let me know if you have any further questions. If you would like me to create a draft location, I can do that for you as well. Good luck, and happy editing! Utopes (talk / cont) 07:15, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

:Muhammed Ali Rahbari Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that anyone can edit. When you publish something into the encyclopedia, we call that an "edit". Because of that, "publishing an edit" and "editing" are more or less the same thing here. Did that answer your inquiry?
:In the meantime, perhaps putting your article into a sandbox would be a good start? From there we can talk about moving it into the encyclopedia, and making sure it is acceptable within Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Utopes (talk / cont) 07:20, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

:Nice! I now see it has been successfully submitted. All that's left is for a volunteer to review the draft.
:Currently the draft is missing sources, so it is unlikely to pass at this time. All information in a Wikipedia article should be attributable to a reliable source. Wikipedia is not a publisher of original research, so any questionable statement will need a reference. Statements that cannot be referenced are likely to be removed. Hey, @Utopes! I'm reaching out because I want to be fully transparent — I am employed by and write for a financial influencer. She has a significant online footprint (articles, interviews, TV appearances, etc/lots of things to cite back to) and it's reasonable for her to have a page...but I know this presents a conflict of interest as I am getting paid to write it and publish it on Wikipedia.
I've drafted what I think is a fair and neutral page for her, but I recognize I have my own biases and it will need other editors' eyes on it. What should my next steps be? Thank you! ~ --Bekah at Erika Kullberg (talk) 00:58, 11 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from PineappleWarrior457 (02:28, 26 February 2025)
"British records from the First Anglo-Afghan War, particularly regarding the number of losses and the size of the enemy forces, often seem to downplay their own defeats or exaggerate the strength of the Afghan forces. For example, during the retreat from Kabul in 1842, British records claim that around 4,500 soldiers were involved, while estimates of the Afghan forces ranged from 12,000 to 20,000, though it's unclear if these numbers were accurate or inflated. Furthermore, while British sources claim only one soldier, Dr. William Brydon, survived the retreat, the true scale of the casualties remains uncertain, with some sources suggesting that the death toll for British forces was much higher, but this is still debated.
Given the political context of these reports and the unclear nature of the casualties, do these discrepancies allow for editing the article with additional historical evidence? And how can we best approach these biased sources when editing, considering the uncertainty around the numbers and the fact that much is still unknown about the true losses during the retreat? --PineappleWarrior457 (talk) 02:28, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

WikiCup 2025 March newsletter
The first round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As a reminder, we are no longer disqualifying the lowest-scoring contestants; everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned from Wikipedia. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. Unlike the round points in the main WikiCup table, which are reset at the end of each round, tournament points are carried over between rounds and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far.
Round 1 was very competitive compared with previous years; two contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 500 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
- with 1,168 round points, mainly from 4 featured articles and 4 good articles on old military history, in addition to an assortment of GA and FA reviews.
- with 1,095 round points, mainly from 2 FAs, 2 featured lists, 8 GAs, and 16 Did You Know articles mainly on historical topics.
- , with 866 round points from 20 GAs, 23 DYKs, and 2 In the News articles primarily about athletes.
- , with 846 round points from 16 GAs about radio and TV stations, 45 GA reviews, and 3 DYKs.
- , with 816 round points from 5 FLs about sports and Olympic topics, 46 FL reviews, 3 ITN articles, and a large number of bonus points.
- , with 815 round points primarily from 3 FAs and 1 GA about music, in addition to 9 article reviews.
The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 18 featured articles, 26 featured lists, 1 featured-topic article, 197 good articles, 38 good-topic articles and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 23 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 550 reviews.
Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2, which begins on 1 March. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. about ":CCFL inverter" listed at Redirects for discussion

Hello,It seems there was a discussion regarding the CCFL inverter article while I was away from Wikipedia for quite a long time. May I ask what the current status of that discussion is? Also, would it be acceptable for me to begin restoring the original CCFL inverter article? If I do so, is there a risk that the article might be deleted again by a specific user? If that happens, what would be the appropriate way to respond or appeal? Additionally, I’ve noticed that the talk page for CCFL inverter is now pointing to the Power Inverter talk page, even though the original talk history should reside under Talk:Piezoelectric Transformer. Is it possible to fix or reassign the proper talk page to reflect the original context? Thank you very much in advance for your guidance. Neotesla (talk) 06:14, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
