:@Wikishovel As the instructor supervising this translation (a student assignment), I'll note that this is not anidentical topic.Did you read it?

:Zh wiki has three separate articles on this: xenophobia and racism related to the COVID-19 pandemic - Wikidata , Chinese virus - Wikidata (those two got merged on en wiki and I think you may be thinking of them), as well as https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/中國式病毒 which is the one being translated here and which is quite distinct; it is related to China threat theory - Wikipedia but arguably has stand-alone notability.

:Now, you are correct about the circular reference problems. The student did not ask me for a review here yet, but I'd tell them that they need to correctly translate and format references (from 中國式病毒 - 维基百科,自由的百科全书 ). They are currently not translated and used correctly.

:Feel free to review my students work and offer additional suggestions. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 03:00, 24 November 2024 (UTC)

{{divbox|blue|3=Hi User:WANGYIZHE1124. First of all, I do not think the first reviewer actually looked at the article before failing it, as it clearly has nothing to do with racism or COVID-19. The topic is clearly notable, especially given the articles from Voice of America and Apple Daily, and I can tell that you translated the article from {{ill|the Chinese version|zh|中國式病毒}}. However, there are several minor issues I would like to address before the article can be accepted. Currently, the History section is not cited inline. If possible, please add sources directly after the sentences they support. Also, please follow the appropriate format for the Cite web template, like adding the url links for the original articles from the news outlets instead of the Chinese Wikipedia article. —}} Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Non-attributed translations

File:Information.svg Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from :zh:西馬湖 to :Lake Seema. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. Sample wording for this is given here. If you forgot, or were not aware of this requirement, attribution must be given retroactively, for example:

: NOTE: Content in the edit of 01:25, January 25, 2023 was translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at :fr:Exact name of French article; see its history for attribution.

Retroactive attribution may be added using a dummy edit; see Repairing insufficient attribution.

It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{tl|translated page}} template on the talk page of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, you must add attribution retrospectively, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. C F A 20:44, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
