Introduction to contentious topics

{{ivmbox | image = Commons-emblem-notice.svg |imagesize=50px | bg = #E5F8FF | text = You have recently edited a page related to COVID-19, broadly construed, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{tl|Ctopics/aware}} template.

File:Information.svg Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contribution(s). However, as a general rule, while user talk pages permit a small degree of generali{{#switch:{{{sp}}}|us=z|uk=s|#default=s}}ation, other talk pages such as Talk:COVID-19 lab leak theory are strictly for discussing improvements to their associated main pages, and many of them have special instructions on the top. They are not a general discussion forum about the article's topic or any other topic. If you have questions or ideas and are not sure where to post them, consider asking at the Teahouse. Thanks. File:Information orange.svg Please do not attack other editors, as you did at :Talk:COVID-19 lab leak theory. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. Doug Weller talk 10:58, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

:Did you leave the same comment on Bon Courage's page? I merely matched his tone because that's all his does: his every other comment is "rubbish", and many people commented on that but I don't see any requests like this on his talk page.

:Search for "rubbish" on this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:COVID-19_lab_leak_theory

:Also notice his general anti-American stance and just a general rude style. Zp112 (talk) 19:08, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
