Veepee (named vente-privee.com until January 2019){{Cite web|url=http://www.lefigaro.fr/flash-eco/vente-privee-com-change-de-nom-20190125|title=Vente-privée.com change de nom|date=25 January 2019|website=Le Figaro}} is a French retailer company that sells products through online flash sales. The site, that celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2011, was developed in an online environment to host sales of designer brands only for members with discounted prices from 50% to 70% off.{{Cite web|url=https://www.lsa-conso.fr/vente-privee-com-le-pionnier-du-destockage-en-ligne,137860|title=Vente-Privée.com : le pionnier du destockage en ligne|website=lsa-conso.fr}} These sales include a diverse selection of product categories: fashion, accessories, toys, watches, home appliances, sports equipment, technology, and wines. The site has diversified its offers and now even travel, entertainment tickets and music are on sale. History

vente-privee.com was founded in 2001 by the current CEO, Jacques-Antoine Granjon,{{Cite web |date=15 July 2014 |title=The flash sales website that grew by word of mouth |url=https://www.bbc.com/news/business-28197332 |website=BBC}} and his seven business partners.{{Cite web |date=November 10, 2011 |title=Les petits secrets de Jacques-Antoine Granjon, le patron de Vente-privee.com |url=https://www.capital.fr/entreprises-marches/les-petits-secrets-de-jacques-antoine-granjon-le-patron-de-vente-privee-com-640955 |website=Capital |language=fr}}

At the end of 2000 Granjon and his associates began to conceptualize the sale of end-of-season and overstock inventory through limited-time sales events on the internet. The principle was to fulfill supplier's needs to quickly sell excess inventory, without harming the brand's image or competing with other distribution channels.{{cite news|last=Schenker|first=Jennifer L.|title=Vente-privee.com Refashions Closeouts|url=http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/content/jan2008/gb20080111_222659.htm|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080116103643/http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/content/jan2008/gb20080111_222659.htm|url-status=dead|archive-date=16 January 2008|date=11 January 2008}}

On 26 July 2007, Summit Partners acquired a 20% stake in vente-privee.com. The funding helped the company expand in Europe: first in Spain and Germany, then in Italy and UK, and more recently in Belgium, Austria and The Netherlands. In late 2011, vente-privee, in a joint venture with American Express, launched the site in the US.{{Cite web|url=https://www.drapersonline.com/archive/vente-privee-to-join-forces-with-american-express-for-us-launch|title=Vente-privee to join forces with American Express for US launch|first=Katherine|last=Rushton|website=Drapers}} However, it was announced in October 2014 that the US branch would be closed by the end of the year.{{Cite web|url=https://fortune.com/2014/10/27/vente-privee-usa-to-shut-down/|title=Vente-Privée USA to shut down|website=Fortune}} Until 2009 one had to be recommended by a member to become a member.

In 2006, the company grew in Europe after opening its website and starting up subsidiaries in various European markets aiming to create a closer relationship with local brands. Since 2016, that growth has been boosted by acquiring stakes in leading strategic players that are profitable in their markets or buying them outright: vente-exclusive in Benelux, Privalia in Spain, Italy, Brazil and Mexico, Eboutic.ch in Switzerland,{{Cite web|url=https://www.challenges.fr/challenges-soir/les-nouvelles-ambitions-europeennes-de-vente-privee_29273|title=Les nouvelles ambitions européennes de vente-privee|website=Challenges}} Designers&Friends in Denmark and ZloteWyprzedaze in Poland.{{Cite web|url=http://www.lefigaro.fr/societes/2016/11/02/20005-20161102ARTFIG00034-vente-privee-met-le-cap-sur-la-pologne.php|title=Vente-privee met le cap sur la Pologne|date=2 November 2016|website=Le Figaro}}

In January 2019, the name of the company changed to "Veepee", a global brand found in 10 European countries.{{Cite web|url=https://www.lesechos.fr/industrie-services/conso-distribution/vente-privee-va-devenir-veepee-959476|title=Vente-privée va devenir " Veepee "|date=24 January 2019|website=Les Echos|location=France}}

Since 2014, vente-privee completed the successive acquisitions of three theaters (Théâtre de Paris, Théâtre de la Michodière, Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens).{{Cite web|url=https://lexpansion.lexpress.fr/actualite-economique/jacques-antoine-granjon-investit-le-marche-de-la-culture_1779718.html|title=Jacques-Antoine Granjon investit le marché de la culture|date=8 April 2016|website=LExpansion.com}}

In June 2017, vente-privee continued its diversification strategy by launching a new platform offering multi-theme tickets at reduced prices: panda-ticket.com.{{Cite web|url=https://www.latribune.fr/technos-medias/panda-ticket-l-offensive-de-vente-privee-com-dans-les-bons-plans-culturels-726870.html|title=Panda-ticket, l'offensive de vente-privee.com dans les bons plans culturels|website=La Tribune}}

Open Innovation

The group rolled out three projects: Veepee Impusle : a Fashion/Tech/Retail start-up accelerator inside Station F, two in-house Lab’innovation in partnership with Epitech and 42 and launched a recruitment plan for 250 IT talents.{{Cite web|url=https://www.frenchweb.fr/vente-privee-80-millions-deuros-pour-son-incubateur-a-station-f-et-ses-labs/273213|title=Vente-privee, 80 millions d'euros pour son incubateur à Station F et ses "labs"|first=Francois Carrillo|last=dit|date=4 January 2017}}
