History
The settlement was first founded in 1493. In 1927, it was renamed Zatonsk ({{langx|uk|Затонськ}}) in honor of Volodymyr Zatonsky, a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.{{cite web|title=Main Page|url=http://vin.km.ua|work=Vinkivtsi Raion State Administration|accessdate=11 February 2013|language=Ukrainian|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130522195048/http://vin.km.ua/|archive-date=22 May 2013|url-status=dead|df=dmy-all}} It received the status of an urban-type settlement in 1957.
Until 18 July 2020, Vinkivtsi was the administrative center of Vinkivtsi Raion. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Khmelnytskyi Oblast to three. The area of Vinkivtsi Raion was merged into Khmelnytskyi Raion.{{Cite news|title=Про утворення та ліквідацію районів. Until 26 January 2024, Vinkivtsi was designated urban-type settlement.
