History

On 2 February 1962, National Liberation Front of South Vietnam set up Liberation Radio in South-controlled territory, and conducted its first airing with the title "This is Liberation Radio, the voice of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam".

Due to the fierce war effort, Liberation Radio was relocated around several provinces before being stationed in Hanoi, and was operating under the alias "Viz 1080 Ministry of General Staff, C55 and CP90".{{Cite web |date=26 April 2015 |title=Đài Phát thanh Giải phóng: 14 năm trọn nghĩa, vẹn tình |url=https://vov.vn/xa-hoi/dai-phat-thanh-giai-phong-14-nam-tron-nghia-ven-tinh-397443.vov |access-date=2023-06-03 |website=VOV.VN |language=vi}} For the duration of the war, this station maintained broadcasting for 10 hours a day in 5 languages: Vietnamese, French, English, Chinese and Khmer.{{Cite web |title=Kỷ niệm 50 năm thành lập Đài Phát thanh Giải phóng (1962–2012): 50 năm khát vọng non sông |url=http://nxbhanoi.com.vn/chi_tiet_tin/tabid/204/cateID/22/artilceID/6783/language/vi-VN/Default.aspx |access-date=2023-06-03 |website=nxbhanoi.com.vn}}
