The {{lang|de|Weinviertel}} ({{IPA|de-AT|ˈvaɪnˌfɪrtl̩|lang|audio=De-Weinviertel.ogg}}; {{langx|en|"Wine Quarter"}}) or {{lang|de|Viertel unter dem Manhartsberg}} ; "Area below the {{lang|de|Manhartsberg|italic=no}}" is located in the northeast of Lower Austria.

In the east, the {{lang|de|Weinviertel}} borders Slovakia at the March River. In the south, it borders {{lang|de|Mostviertel}} and {{lang|de|Industrieviertel}}, its limits being the Wagram, the Danube and the {{lang|de|Marchfeld}}. Its western neighbor is {{lang|de|Waldviertel}}, the traditional border being the {{lang|de|Manhartsberg|italic=no}}. In the north, the {{lang|de|Weinviertel}} is adjacent to the Czech Republic, more specifically Moravia. The river Thaya runs back and forth across the border.

Viticulture

The name {{lang|de|Weinviertel}} is derived from viticulture; it is Austria's largest wine growing area. The most important grape varieties are:

Other important rivers are {{lang|de|Göllersbach|italic=no}}, {{lang|de|Hamelbach|italic=no}}, {{lang|de|Pulkau|italic=no}}, {{lang|de|Rußbach|italic=no}}, {{lang|de|Schmida|italic=no}}, {{lang|de|Waidenbach|italic=no}}, {{lang|de|Weidenbach|italic=no}} and {{lang|de|Zaya|italic=no}}.

Beside viticulture and agriculture, other industries contribute to the {{lang|de|Weinviertel}} economy. Most notably, there are some oil fields in its eastern part, which are exploited by OMV and located in the "oil communities" of {{lang|de|Neusiedl an der Zaya|italic=no}}, {{lang|de|Zistersdorf|italic=no}}, {{lang|de|Matzen|italic=no}}, {{lang|de|Auersthal|italic=no}} and {{lang|de|Prottes|italic=no}}.

Important rail connections are Franz Josef Railway, the North railway and the East railway.
