Weld neck flange

A weld neck flange (also known as a high-hub flange and tapered hub flange{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=ZsU5A1mANWUC&dq=%22Weld+neck+flange%22&pg=PA620 |title=Heat Exchanger Design Handbook |edition=2nd |last=Thulukkanam |first=Kuppan |page=620 |publisher=CRC Press |isbn=9781439842126 |date=20 May 2013 |accessdate=15 October 2014}}) is a type of flange. There are two designs. The regular type is used with pipes. The long type is unsuitable for pipes and is used in process plant.{{cite web |url=http://piping-designer.com/Weld_Neck_Flange |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100731001251/http://piping-designer.com/Weld_Neck_Flange |archive-date=2010-07-31 |title=Piping Designer - Resources for piping, engineering and design |publisher=piping-designer.com/ |accessdate=9 September 2022}} A weld neck flange consists of a circular fitting with a protruding rim around the circumference. Generally machined from a forging, these flanges are typically butt welded to a pipe. The rim has a series of drilled holes that permit the flange to be affixed to another flange with bolts.

Such flanges are suitable for use in hostile environments that have extremes of temperature, pressure or other sources of stress.{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=ep5-MDDnt3YC&dq=%22Weld+neck+flange%22&pg=PA195 |pages=195–196 |title=Piping Materials Guide |last=Smith |first=Peter |publisher=Gulf Publishing Company |date=20 January 2005 |isbn=9780080480022 |accessdate=15 October 2014}} The resilience of this type of flange is achieved by sharing the environmental stress with the pipe with which it is welded.{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=DS_AkW9uiUgC&dq=%22Weld+neck+flange%22&pg=PA59 |pages=59–60 |title=Pipe Drafting and Design |author=Roy A.
