History

Nadav Poraz founded the site in London, England in 2008, as a way to track musical samples and cover songs. Mobile apps were released in 2012 and 2014 for iPhone and Android, respectively.{{cite news|url=https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/sep/23/whosampled-android-music-dna-nadav-poraz|title=With 1 million users, WhoSampled brings its music DNA exploration to Android|last=Dredge|first=Stuart|work=The Guardian|date=23 September 2014|access-date=1 February 2017}} The website's database is user-generated and reviewed by moderators before the content goes live. As of 2024, the site's most sampled track is "Amen, Brother" by the Winstons, which contains the most sampled drum break in music history, having been sampled in more than 6,600 songs.{{cite web|url=https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-most-sampled-song-of-all-time/|title=It Only Takes Six Seconds To Hear The World's Most Sampled Song|last=Goldenberg|first=David|work=FiveThirtyEight|date=22 September 2016|access-date=1 February 2017}}{{cite web|url=https://www.whosampled.com/song-tag/Sampled%20in%20More%20Than%206000%20Songs/|title=Sampled in More Than 6000 Songs|website=WhoSampled |access-date=22 October 2022}} In 2015, the site added support for film and television clips.{{cite web|url=http://www.techradar.com/news/internet/now-you-can-search-whosampled-for-film-and-tv-samples-too-1293902|title=Get to the chopper!
