Stenton (Glenrothes)

{{#switch:|accept={{afc a}}|mm={{afc mm}}|#default={{afc r}}}}

Stenton is one of the smallest precincts in the New Town of Glenrothes. Bulding of it began in the late 70's and early 80's, with the GDC taking on the area. The plan of Glenrothes was to have every precinct fitted with a small shopping centre and a primary school, however Stenton did not benefit from this, having to be catered for by neighbouring Pitteuchar.

=Stenton Pond=

The pond at Stenton is a man-made beauty spot, popular with locals as well as tourists. The large body of water provides homes for swans, ducks, and many other wildlife as it is surrouned by woodland. Just along from the beauty sport is a childrens play park, in the neighbouring precinct of Finglassie.

Association of Filipino Forestry Students - UPLB

{{#switch:{{{1}}}|accept={{afc a}}|mm={{afc mm}}|#default={{afc r}}}}

Association of Filipino Forestry Students - (UPLB) (AFFS-UPLB) or Kapisanan ng mga Pilipinong Mag-aaral ng Paggugubat - UPLB is an academic-environmental organization. AFFS-UPLB is a non-profit affiliate of the Asean Forestry Student's Organization (AFSA). AFFS-UPLB was founded on 1999, in the month of February. It is one of the first chapters of AFFS to be established in the country. The organization aims not only to provide a training ground for student-members to do well in academics, but also to pursue activities that will be able to help conserve the environment. It has the primary objective of enhancing cooperation among members for information exchange. Bounded by its constitution and preamble, having the motto "Friends United Through Forestry", AFFS-UPLB remains one of the most independent students organizations there is.

AFFS is affiliated with the Global Association of Online Foresters - an international online organization whose thrust is to increase the understanding of forestry by improving communications world-wide.

=Advocacy Toward Academic Excellence=

While UPLB produces caliber graduates, College of Forestry and Natural Resources of UPLB has also been bringing forth prime forestry practitioners. AFFS-UPLB has given a notable and recognizable contribution to UPLB-CFNR being a center of excellence for forestry education. For years, AFFS-UPLB members have been a persisting entry to the annual Forester Licensure Examination (FLE) organized and conducted by the Board for Foresters, Philippine Regulation Commission. Variably, AFFS has virtually taken any rank in the top ten (10) of annual FLE and have donned the number one spot for three (3) times already.

For the record, the following are AFFS alumni who have garnered the coveted topnotcher (rank 1) spot in the Forester Licensure Examination:

  • Forester Dhiocel Alianza Celadina (Rank 1, FLE 2004) AFFS-UPLB
  • Forester Ozzy Boy Sairez Nicopior (Rank 1, FLE 2007) AFFS-UPLB
  • Forester Jane Taylan Afidchao (Rank 1, FLE 2008) AFFS-NVSU (Nueva Viscaya state University)

In the 2007 FLE, members of AFFS-UPLB have dominated the top ten rankings (1st, 4th, 5th, and 7th); and in 2008 grabbed the 5th, 7th and 10th place and the number one rank was obtained by an AFFS member from the NVSU chapter.

Werner Schramm

{{#switch:accept|accept={{afc a}}|mm={{afc mm}}|#default={{afc r}}}}

Werner Schramm (born 1898 in in Duisburg, Germany; died 1970 in Düsseldorf, Germany) was a German painter. He was born as a son of merchants. After a classical education, he entered the school of Decorative Arts in Düsseldorf. In 1919 he began painting again after having been interrupted by the First World War. He was influenced by German expressionism and also by the first expressions of abstract art. The discovery of the Isenheim Altarpiece of Matthias Grünewald, which was temporarily exhibited at the Munich Pinacothek, was a revelation to him and he started his first attempts in middle-ages techniques: a well performed drawing on a priming of chalk or plaster with a mixture of oil and yoke of egg as paint.

In 1920 he was appointed decorator at the theatre of Düsseldorf. After his marriage in 1925 to Liselotte Heckmann he lived for a year near Florence and then five years in Paris. During that time he journeyed many times across France. In 1929 he went to Spain. From 1931 to 1970 he lived with his family in Düsseldorf.

Peter Yarmouth (Record Producer)

{{#switch:{{{1}}}|accept={{afc a}}|mm={{afc mm}}|#default={{afc r}}}}

Peter Yarmouth is a record producer, owner of Black & Blue Records (Cambridge MA), and closely linked to ScumRock guru, GG Allin. Yarmouth, who became a trusted confidant of the anti-establishment Allin, compiled and distributed Allin's most notorious album - Banned in Boston, released on the Black & Blue label in the early 1980s. Yarmouth and Allin first met in the early 1980s, at the Living Room in Providence, RI, quickly turning a friendship into a professional relationship in which Yarmouth produced several early GG Allin and the Jabbers albums, none more controversial then the Banned release.

Yarmouth is also sometimes referred to as "Dick Urine," a name coined by Allin. Yarmouth produced a lot of the early works of GG under the name Dick Urine, a name Yarmouth was never fond of. In a questionable publicity scheme Urine was killed in a supposed motorcycle accident in Umea, Sweden and future releases were produced under the Yarmouth name. In 1990, Yarmouth also produced and distributed Allin's "Doctrine of Mayhem" album, featuring concert staples "Blood for You," "Torture You," and "GG's Xmas Song."

Besides GG Allin, Yarmouth has produced albums by Northwinds, Bloody Mess & The Skabs, Algae Afterbirth, Blue Nouveaux, Bloody & The Vaynes, Boorish Boot, The Cedar Street Sluts along with compilations, music videos and various singles and EP's. The Black & Blue label has never had much commercial success; instead, catering to ScumRock devotees. GG Allin's releases have been the most successful the label has produced, and even those failed to attract a mainstream audience.

Meet Virginia

{{#switch:{{{1}}}|accept={{afc a}}|mm={{afc mm}}|#default={{afc r}}}}

"Meet Virginia" is the second single released from the rock band Train's 1998 self titled, debut album. The song was released in August of 1999 as a radio single and spent four weeks at number one on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. The success of "Meet Virginia" was a building progress due to the fact that Train, at this time, was a relativley unheard of band. For this reason, the single was still popular and on certain music charts throughout 2000. The song was a huge mainstream and adult contemporary success for Train and paved the way for their fanbase and the rock/pop hit Drops of Jupiter that followed in 2001.

=Meaning=

According to Pat Monahan, Train's lead vocalist and songwriter, the song is not about any single woman, but many that he has known or observed throughout his life. He explains he wrote the song to display the respect that women deserve due to their struggles of living in a very male influenced and dominated world.
