• Weak Keep Possibly notable as an author. His book Al-Jazeera : how the free Arab news network scooped the world and changed the Middle East is in 1700 libraries, according to WorldCat, & has been translated into Turkish and Korean. but he is listed as joint author with Mohammed El-Nawawy, who has also written one major book by himself, The Israeli-Egyptian peace process in the reporting of western journalists -- theyare apparently of about equal status. There are refs from 2 major university sites. As expected, there are major reviews: Political Science Quarterly, Publishers Weekly, Der Spiegel Online, Chicago Tribune, foreign PolicyAssociation --all listed in Google news Archive. As a professor, he's still relatively junior, apparently an assistant professor and would not meet WP:PROF. But the rules for author are very much looser., Possible the GNG guideline is too loose for authors, but there seems to be consensus to use it. it is. DGG (talk) 05:06, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

• He clearly doesn't meet WP:ACADEMIC, I find no evidence at all he's ever been anything more than an Adjunct Professor; an adjunct is someone who is allowed to hang around a department, have faculty privileges at the library and so on, but is only paid on a per-course basis when they are teaching, they are unpaid otherwise. • Adjunct can also mean a full-time position that is paid through grants rather than through permanent funding. But that doesn't seem to be the case here. —David Eppstein (talk) 16:43, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I am not quite sure the subject meets WP:PROF criterion #1 (significant impact in scholarly discipline, broadly construed), because the main author of his book on Al-Jazeera (held by more than 900 major libraries, according to WorldCat) is actually Mohammed El-Nawawy (as noted by DGG).
