I cannot find any secondary sources on this material (including a JSTOR search), but I'm not sure if archaeological sites would fall more under physical places with inherent notability or require some secondary sources to be kept. Ricky81682 (talk) 17:28, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

• Merge somewhere (an article about the neolithic period in Iran perhaps). I am not aware of any guidelines on this issue, but in my opinion significant archaeological settlement sites are inherently worthy of an article (e.g. Ur, Skara Brae). However lesser ones need to demonstrate notability (e.g. Dispilio which was occupied for a long time and is now set up as a tourist attraction), which this site doesn't. However we should not lose this information, and so it should be merged somewhere although I don't have an exact article that I know of where it would fit. • Keep - In my opinion, if we do not want to lose the information in an article, and there is no suitable article with which to merge it, the correct course of action is to keep the article. The lack of secondary sources is regrettable, but the subject is in the middle of a war zone, and according to the article there is interest in further excavation at the site, so we may get secondary sources once the war is over. • Keep According to [http://www.dartmouth.edu/~anthro/pdfs/abdi-jwp.pdf The Early Development of Pastoralism in the Central Zagros Mountains by Kamyar Abdi (Journal of World Prehistory, Vol. 17, No. 4, December 2003)] : "Only three sites dating to the Early (Aceramic) Neolithic are recorded:ID1 (or, more simply “1”) (Chogha Gavaneh), 48 (Chia Baft), and 117 (Chia Jani)". I would say that this makes it notable - obviously there were a lot more than that, but only three have been identified, and this is one of them. The National Geographic Society also think they are important, as they have made at least 1 RCE (Research, Conservation and Exploration) Grant ([http://www.nationalgeographic.com/staticfiles/NGS/Shared/StaticFiles/Field/kmz/NGSGrants.kmz NGS Grants] (KMZ format)): 2001 - Bernbeck, Reinhard, W. - Sharing And Consumption At Iranian Early Neolithic Chia Jani: "The Chia Jani project will conduct archaeological excavations at the Neolithic (8th to 7th millennium B.C.) site of Chia Jani in the Zagros mountains of western Iran in order to investigate the social relations accompanying changing patterns of food acquisition. The project examines the ways in which food processing and consumption - in particular the sharing of food - changed as the community modified its reliance on domesticated plants and animals.
