(Contested PROD) This appears to be an article about a non-notable specific wrestling belt that is written in an unencyclopedic tone with several unnecessary images of non-notable wrestlers in addition. JJP...MASTER![talk to] JJP... master? 17:38, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

:delete: Is this notable? Maybe. 100 or so years of history if true is pretty notable. The article makes no effort to actually verify any of this, and it's in need of a WP:TNT really. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:21, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

  • Comment - the article creator, {{u|Mab an Garrek}} put this on the talk page of this AfD rather than on the AfD itself - I am copying it here without prejudice (ChrisTheDude (talk) 22:04, 1 January 2021 (UTC)): "This is a solid silver belt, that cost a fortune at the time is was donated by Sir Edward Nicholls and has been in continuous use for 100 years. This belt is awarded to the winner of the heavyweight title for possibly the oldest continuously competed sport in Britain, which is Cornwall's national sport. Some of the named wrestlers have their own pages in Wiki."

  • Keep. Major title in a national sport. Seems notable to me. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:48, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

:{{ping|Necrothesp}} - It is not a national sport. Cornish wrestling is completely unknown outside one very specific small region of the UK. I would be surprised if it has ever received any significant coverage in the national media (the first 10 pages of a Google search certainly don't turn up anything, and I got bored after that) -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 18:22, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

::Although Cornwall is part of England, it is generally regarded as a "nation". Not a nation state, of course, but certainly a nation, with its own customs, its own traditions and its own language. And indeed, its own national anthem, national flag and national sport! -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:41, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

:: See the link: https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/community-and-living/equality-and-diversity/cornish-national-minority/ which describes how Cornwall is a minority nation under the framework convention for national minorities as ratified by the Council of Europe in 2015. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mab an Garrek (talkcontribs) 11:36, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

::*Comment: The source above states they are a "National Minority", not that they are a nation. Cornwall is not a nation. This is not a national sport.  // Timothy :: t | c | a   09:54, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

  • Delete While it sounds like this should be notable, and if good references could be found I think it would be. The problems is that WP:GNG requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list." The references on the article don't meet that they are all "Tripp, Michael: PERSISTENCE OF DIFFERENCE: A HISTORY OF CORNISH WRESTLING, University of Exeter as a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy 2009..." My google book (Your search - "Cornish Wrestling Heavyweight Belt" -wikipedia - did not match any book results.) and news search did not find anything. Jeepday (talk) 19:29, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

  • Delete: Fails GNG. There is not SIGCOV addressing the subject - the belt and the title - directly and indepth.  // Timothy :: t | c | a   09:54, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
