Charitable organization of good intention, but questionable notability. According to their own website they have raised "more than $10000 thus far", 1/2 of which came as a single donation. May be notable some time in the future, but doesn't seem to be notable at this time WuhWuzDat 16:12, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

I disagree that Empower Orphans is not a notable entry for Wikipedia. Empower Orphans has made substantial improvements in the lives of orphaned and underprivileged children. It is a registered 501(c)3 US-based non-profit organization.

~ Started a library at an orphanage to directly benefit 200 orphaned children. ~ Provided school books, school bags, shoes, food, blankets and sweaters to 200 orphans. ~ Conducted an Eye Clinic and Dental Clinic for 360 underprivileged children. Additionally, 56 children with acute eye problems and 103 children with acute dental problems were sponsored for treatment. ~ Provided annual scholarships to 10 children ~ Provided 10 sewing machines to older girls, so that they can start earning a living. ~ Obtained a grant for building another library at an underprivileged school.

The Founder (Neha Gupta) has also won a number of national awards/recognition: ~ Gold Medal of the President’s Volunteer Service Award. ~ Wachovia Corporation’s 2008 “Who Would You Thank” national award ~ Finalist of the Philadelphia Inquirer’s 2008 Citizen of the Year Award. ~ Amazing Kids of the Month Award ~ Volunteer effort highlighted in a number of national and international newspapers

I have attached links to 10 articles and 3-4 external sites. Not sure what more is required to be judged notable.

  • Weak delete as the only coverage by external sources seems to be a local news paper that is itself not notable. Handschuh-talk to me 10:50, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

I do not know where you found that the only external source is a local newspaper. I have attached 10 references, which include 3 international newspaper articles, 1 US national article, 2 US regional newspaper articles and 4 US local newspaper articles. What more is required?

:Many of those articles are clippings hosted by the Empower Orphans website that don't even show the name of the newspaper. Can't you reference the original source? Four of the cited articles hosted by Empower Orphans came back as "Access Denied". Also, it appears from those articles that her fame may have been short lived and notability isn't temporary. I will address your points raised: 1). I could click on all 10 newspaper links and view them. I do not know why you are getting 4 with 'Access Denied'. Have you cleared your cache? I remember that I had mistakenly added a comma, a few days ago. At that time, it was giving me an 'Access Denied' message. 2). The newspaper images have been hosted at Empower Orphans because the newspapers do not keep the online version for very long. Of the 10 newspapers, 3 are linked to the newspapers website and 7 are linked to newspaper cuttings. 3). The original source and the date that the newspaper article appeared has already been mentioned in the References List. What more is required? 4). These newspaper articles are from 2006 to 2009. Therefore it is definitely not temporary or short-lived. In fact, there is a new mention of Empower Orphans and the founder (Neha Gupta) in Philadelphia Inquirer's Citizen of the Year (http://www.philly.com/inquirer/opinion/80492867.html). :On second thought, really there's no reason that you should have to link to the actual article at all...you only need to provide the citation. The ongoing nature of the coverage does hint toward real notability. My position is now that I favor keeping this article. My only reservation now is that Neha is herself not independently notable, since her only claim to notability is her involvement in the organisation. Handschuh-talk to me 09:29, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

If you want I can remove the link to the actual article. I kept the link because I thought that it would add credibility when you can see the actual source or image of the source. I will take your advise on this matter.

I still think that Neha is independently notable since she is the Founder of Empower Orphans and is the main person raising funds and running projects for caring for the children. All awards are awarded to her. 71.58.49.7 (talk) 17:49, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

:Leave the links to the images there. It is better to be able to see them. Independently notable means that without the organisation, she would still be notable. In this case the notability of Neha and Empower Orphans is clearly intertwined, but I would lean more towards seeing the organisation as notable.Handschuh-talk to me 09:50, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

  • Delete very minor accomplishments. The only interest is it being run by a child, but I consider that essentially human interest tabloid fodder. DGG ( talk ) 19:57, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

I would not consider being nominated for Philadelphia's Citizen of the Year for 2008 and 2009 as minor accomplishments, nor would winning the Wachovia's national philanthropic award and President Obama's Gold Volunteer Service Award. I agree that Neha is a child but, that makes the accomplishments even more remarkable. I did not realize that Wikipedia had a age limit for notability. Mozart may not have qualified (though Neha is not at that level). If you want to delete Neha Gupta's article that is ok but, I think that the article for Empower Orphans should remain.   • Keep per the significant coverage in reliable sources. Sources such as [http://www.phillyburbs.com/news/local/courier_times/courier_times_news_details/article/28/2009/september/10/improving-childrens-lives-bit-by-bit.html this article] from phillyburbs.com and [http://www.empowerorphans.org/userfiles/Tribune%20India%20Jan%2015%202007.jpg this article] from Tribune India, [http://www.empowerorphans.org/userfiles/Philadelphia%20Inquirer%20Mar%2019%202009%20Page%201.jpg this article] from Philadelphia Inquirer, [http://www.empowerorphans.org/userfiles/Yardley%20News%20July%2012%202007.jpg this article] from Yardley News and the numerous other sources in the article establish notability. While I believe that Neha Gupta, the founder, is more notable than this organization, this is an editorial matter than can be dealt with later. Cunard (talk) 01:41, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
