Mostly unsourced article, including information and pictures that is not even directly related to the topic. - LouisAragon (talk) 15:16, 21 May 2022 (UTC)

::Although some users are seemingly insinuating as if I ever denied the long-standing presence of (Mountain) Jews in Derbent, my main concern is just about the state of the article. I.e. can we say to ourselves "yup this article is ready to be viewed by our readers"? I for one would disagree, and would propose it being drafitied. For instance, lets go through some of the sources listed, one by one:

::Ref 1: doesn't cover the claim for the supposed appearance of Jews in Derbent after the "destruction of the First Temple in Jerusalem"

::Ref 2: idem

::Ref 3: idem

::Ref 4: idem

::Ref 5: "Most Derbent Jews are immigrants from the mountain and steppe villages of the northern Caucasus.[5]" -- not covered by the Russian-language source (in fact it says Jews appeared in Derbent in the 7th century, which contradicts the supposed post-First Temple destruction claim.)[https://stmegi.com/posts/15040/derbent_chast_1_6981/]

::First 5 refs fail WP:VER. I'm sure there are many more if I were to skim through the rest of the article. Tl;dr; the article clearly passes notability, but it does fail some WP core policies.

::: Dear LouisAragon, Thank you so much for your input. I appreciate it. Regarding your Ref 5, I would like to assure you that the sentence "Most Derbent Jews are immigrants from the mountain and steppe villages of the northern Caucasus", I found in [https://stmegi.com/posts/15040/derbent_chast_1_6981/]. Here is in the Russian language: "Большинство Дербентских евреев - переселенцы из горных и степных аулов северного Кавказа и их потомки." I didn't make it up.

::: I edited the article based on your remarks - Ref 1. Again, thank you for all your recommendations. Boxes12 (talk) 01:46, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

  • Keep -- I edited the page and added sources. Thank you for your help. Boxes12 (talk) 05:43, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
  • Keep -- The article makes clear that Derbent was a significant historical centre for Judaism. I do not think that merging is the right solution, as this would not give the subject the weight it deserves. A lack of sourcing is not a ground for deletion, unless the subject is a hoax or BLP. Peterkingiron (talk) 14:15, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
  • Keep -- The article improved significantly in terms of added sources. There is no reason to delete this article. Tanya82 (talk) 02:03, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
  • Keep - The addition of reliable and verifiable sources about Derbent's Jewish community supports the claim of notability and rebuts the argument for deletion made by the nominator. Alansohn (talk) 02:43, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
  • Keep: The images on the page are relevant and have Creative Commons licences (varia). After ploughing through heaps of Google Translate, I find notability in the additional sources added to the article. It is very clear that Jews have a history in the Caucasus and Derbent. Even if Benjamin spells it as Derbend. --Whiteguru (talk) 06:53, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
  • Keep per above. The Jewish community section in the city article is long enough, so legit WP:SPINOFF and rejecting that merge proprosal. gidonb (talk) 17:24, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
