Fails WP:GNG and lacks WP:SIGCOV. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 23:53, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

  • Keep - this one seems to have plenty of sources under "Margaret Jospeh", and I've added a few. If you check Loop, the National, or the PNG Post-Courier, you ought to be able to find more. It would be nice if people bothered to check before leaping straight to AfD.--IdiotSavant (talk) 05:59, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

  • Keep - per article improvement and sources being found. GiantSnowman 20:57, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
  • Keep per above with new sources it passes WP:GNG and subject is 23 years with an active career hence see little point in deleting it.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 22:03, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
  • Keep - Per above. Clearly significant figure in PNG womens and international football who helped Papua New Guinea women win Papua New Guinea's only major trophy, the 2022 OFC Women's Cup. I look at the other Sports WikiProjects (or any WikiProject) and they don't nearly have an article deleted per day, let alone 30. By the time I finish writing this, another 30 will probably be deleted. Article may need improvement, but definitely not deletion. Thanks, Das osmnezz (talk) 22:49, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
  • Delete. We have two articles, from the same publisher, totaling around 7 sentences of independent commentary on her youth football career. That is far from sufficient for GNG, per the extremely ample precedent of footballers deleted at AfD. Here's my full assessment of the sources in the article (excluding Oceania Football Confederation, which is obvs not independent as the governing org). 1. [https://www.thenational.com.pg/joseph-standby-lead/ The National 1]: four independent sentences + quotes -- not SIGCOV, and falls under YOUNGATH which requires much more significant attention than this. {{nay}}. 2. [https://www.thenational.com.pg/joseph-aiming-high/ TN 2]: another three independent sentences, and is not independent from the other TN articles, which must be evaluated as a single source. This also falls under YOUNGATH. {{nay}} 3. [https://www.thenational.com.pg/club-counting-on-experienced-players-to-lay-foundation/ TN 3]: passing mention, {{nay}}. 4. [https://postcourier.com.pg/gunemba-hat-trick-gives-png-win/ Post Courier 1]: passing mention, {{nay}}. [https://www.samoa2019.ws/news/football-png-wins-womens-nz-win-mens/ Samoa 2019]: does not mention her, and not independent. {{nay}} 5: [https://postcourier.com.pg/png-crowned-champions-of-oceania/ PC 2]: passing mention, {{nay}}. • Keep I suspect "Margret" is just a typo, btw. Johnbod (talk) 19:48, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
  • :Hopefully everyone here is aware that NSPORT requires all athlete articles have a valid source of SIGCOV cited in the article. For non-professional athletes it also explicitly excludes {{tq|a repeating of their statistics, mentions in game summaries, or other WP:ROUTINE coverage.}} For high school-age athletes it further restricts the sourcing that can contribute to notability: {{tq|High school and pre-high school athletes are notable only if they have received, as individuals, substantial and prolonged coverage that is: (1) independent of the subject; and (2) clearly goes beyond WP:ROUTINE coverage. The first clause excludes all school papers and school websites that cover their sports teams and other teams they compete against. The second clause excludes the majority of local coverage in both news sources and sports specific publications. It especially excludes using game play summaries, statistical results, or routine interviews as sources to establish notability.}}
  • :Given these guideline requirements, which sources demonstrate the subject meets GNG? Which sources even contribute to GNG? JoelleJay (talk) 20:02, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
  • Keep. Plainly notable, regular coverage in the two national newspapers of PNG. The Drover's Wife (talk) 23:11, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
