Unsourced stub about a non-notable letter. Of the languages linked in the article, only 2 (Northern Mansi and Ulch language) mention the letter. Janhrach (talk) 15:07, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

  • Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Language and Russia. Janhrach (talk) 15:07, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
  • :*Keep No rationale provided for deletion beyond lack of sourcing which doesn't indicate whether there are sources available. Per WP:PRESERVE article should be kept. Not sure how one determines whether a character is notable. I would suggest proper sourcing from linguistic sources + adding to the article (e.g. what sound is made in these languages?). Language and how people communicate seem important and notable to me, even if it's not going to be covered in mainstream sources.

  • ::I would say WP:GNG applies to letters.
  • ::Is the content verifiable? If not, then WP:DON'T PRESERVE applies. No sources have been provided yet. Janhrach (talk) 13:36, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
  • :::There are linguistic sources available on the Mansi alphabet page. Keeping this article and expanding it makes more sense than deletion. It may take a Russian speaker to add to this article, but reliable sources appear to exist and this article can be expanded so english readers can understand the pronunciation of the letter and the history of its use for Mansi languages. :*Keep per above; there are indeed sources. More can probably be found at the Russian wikipedia. 🪐Kepler-1229b | talk | contribs🪐 21:45, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

  • {{Strikethrough|Weak}} keep - if the letter does indeed exist in Northern Mansi, there is likely to be at least something like an alphabet book that would allow it to pass WP:GNG. It might be difficult to find a source for non-Russian speakers, and such a source will likely not be available online, but the nomination doesn't really show that enough work was done to demonstrate that a source really doesn't exist. (Update: sources clearly available as per above comment, just keep). Stockhausenfan (talk) 04:36, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
  • Merge to Yo (Cyrillic). Only sources I could find were in Mansi alphabets where it is shown in [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Okrispolkom_HMAO_25.04.1990_Decision_73_-_Khanty_Mansi_alphabets_-_2.jpg an official chart] and mentioned in [https://ouipiir.ru/node/24 another source]. I don't see it in the other sources cited but my ability to scan Russian is limited. Not a separate Unicode codepoint and not a commonly used combination. The Ulch language article, for instance, lists it (uncited) as a letter "used in writing, though not officially included in the alphabet", and our articles call the macron "optional" in Evenki and "used in educational literature" in Nanai. • :If it is used in educational literature, the educational literature should allow it to pass WP:GNG provided that it gives an explanation of the pronunciation/usage of the letter. IMO it would be best to keep the article until someone can evaluate all of the educational resources on the languages in question for whether they provide significant coverage.
