Global bot approval request for KiranBOT

MathBot

  • {{Userlinks|Mathbot}}

Hello, Bot experts,

MathBot doesn't seem to be operating and the bot operator Oleg Alexandrov hasn't been active for a few months now. The bot is primarily active managing AFD pages and, for example, it didn't create the AFD log for tomorrow, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2025 April 27. I've dropped an email to the Oleg but I also thought I'd post a note here in case there are any bot pros who could check on things so that the AFD process can continue to operate smoothly. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 19:10, 26 April 2025 (UTC)

:Just to update this: Oleg has left a message here: Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion#Help maintaining the bot that indexes old articles, but it seems to indicate it's not his or a Mathbot problem. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 01:36, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

::FWIW - we clearly have a really big bus factor problem with this. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 01:37, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

:::Huh, I thought AnomieBOT did logs, must just be TFD... looks like the bot's code is public so if someone wants to take it over it should be fairly easy to do so (at least from that perspective). Primefac (talk) 09:27, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

::::If it's not possible, WP:AALERTS provides essentially the same functionality with Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Article alerts/Archive 1, /Archive 2, Archive 3, etc... Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 10:24, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

::::I can take over, however it will be done only at the end of the coming week. – robertsky (talk) 14:03, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

::::Hmmm... pinging @DreamRimmer as well as they are listed on the bot's toolforge page. – robertsky (talk) 14:07, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

::::{{ping|Anomie}} feels like a natural ping. Izno (talk) 15:34, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

::::: If we decide a replacement bot is needed, I could look into it. If additional maintainers can be added to the existing bot and there are some volunteers for that, that'd be faster though. Anomie 23:00, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

:Just a side note, the original bot uses cgi scripting. the logic can be seen on [https://github.com/oleg-alexandrov/mathbot/tree/master/afd github here] —usernamekiran (talk) 17:41, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

:I have addressed the issues and restarted the bot. – DreamRimmer (talk) 00:29, 28 April 2025 (UTC)

::Hi @DreamRimmer - thank you. At Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Old/Open_AfDs it lists the open AfDs; is it possible to have this showing back to April 15 as there are still open AfDs from that date? Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 04:36, 28 April 2025 (UTC)

:::@Goldsztajn: Done – DreamRimmer (talk) 05:59, 28 April 2025 (UTC)

::::@DreamRimmer thank you very the prompt action! Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 06:22, 28 April 2025 (UTC)

Bot Flag for [[User:PharyngealBOT|PharyngealBOT]]

I'm unsure if this is the right place to post such a request, but could a crat flag this bot please. The task it will be carrying out, the BRFA, and other information can be found herePharyngealImplosive7 (talk) 13:42, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

:There is no need to request the bot flag separately. Once a bot is approved, it is listed under Approved BRFAs at Crat tasks, and passing crats grant the flag if the bot needs to be flagged. – DreamRimmer 16:01, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

::Ok, thanks for letting me know. I'm new to this process, so that's why I asked. – PharyngealImplosive7 (talk) 16:04, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

:::Np :) – DreamRimmer 16:05, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

:::Looks like this might have been missed. @Primefac, if you have a moment, could you please grant the bot flag here? – DreamRimmer 12:53, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

::::{{done}}, for the record, sorry for the delay (I'm still not getting notifications when the /Approved list is updated, so I sometimes miss the "needs flag" notice). Primefac (talk) 12:56, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

Revoke flag for AvicBot

Bot and operator both inactive for more than two years. Operator will be notified soon. * Pppery * it has begun... 00:03, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

:Sounds good, keep us posted. Primefac (talk) 12:56, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

BAG notification bot?

I've noticed that a lot of the Wikipedia:BRFA requests have gone stale over the past few months. I'd like to help by creating a bot that adds BAG templates if nobody has responded to a request for a certain amount of time. I know that @AnomieBOT moves requests that have actually expired, and I don't intend to replace that functionality unless needed. The bot would add each template based on the current status of the request, as well as the last response. For example, if the bot is in the trial phase, and the latest message is from the requester and contains the phrase "trial complete" without the proper template, the bot would respond with the template. Or if a bot was in the request phase and had been stale for a couple of months, the bot would add the either Operator or BAG assistance needed template, depending on if the last respondent was a BAG member or not. There would likely be a template you could add to a request to prevent this, or set custom timing before the bot activates, similar to the Do not archive [until] template. The bot could also automatically deactivate templates if the proper user or user group responds. Does anyone think these tasks would be helpful? I'm only asking here because it directly impacts the BRFA process as well as the BAG, and I need toolforge access in order to implement it. JarJarInks٩(◕_◕)۶Tones essay 12:52, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

:No comment on most of that, but the Toolforge piece is independent of the BRFA process and you can request that anytime by following the process at wikitech:Help:Toolforge/Quickstart. –Novem Linguae (talk) 20:27, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

: I can't say this seems particularly helpful to me. If humans want attention, they can add the templates. A bot doing it renders them meaningless. Anomie 00:12, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

: Sounds like more hassle than it's worth. As said above, if someone needs my attention, I can be pinged; if I start getting bot-generated pings for BRFA, I will start ignoring them. That being said, if someone wants to clerk the "in trial" requests and add the appropriate {{t|BotTrialComplete}} if it's not added, be my guest, but from my recollection it's fairly rare for that to happen and thus probably doesn't need a bot.
