:Nominator's rationale: These are just two trees, one for categories like :Category:Dutch people by ethnic or national origin, and the other for categories like :Category:People of Dutch descent. • Merge and redirect so as not to lose the many interwiki links. This duplication has come about by the renaming of categories that were "by ethnic or national origin" to "by descent" at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2023 December 10#Container categories by descent, by consensus of the same two participants. Although there remains a layer with names like :Category:Dutch people by ethnic or national origin, the contents of that one currently use "by descent", so merger is appropriate. – Fayenatic London 10:17, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

::Oppose. These categories are created based on a template that is looking for them. While the template can be modified to not look for them, that is just pointless work that will hinder any future category creation (as it won't be red linked anymore). Furthur more, these categories are all part of a huge tree and set of categories and removing links in this tree won't help no one. Also, the fact that there is only 1 sub-category at the moment, is not because of a lack of content that fits, but because of lack of editorial focus as television programs where obviously present in the 20th centuary in most if not all of the above countries. ::: In response to the first part of your rationale: rather than modify {{tl|Century nationality television series category}} to not look for this parent, it would rather be coded to use e.g. :Category:Soviet television series by century if it exists, otherwise to use :Category:Soviet television series. Actually, because the Soviet Union only existed within one century, all the Soviet TV topic categories should be restructured to go straight into the C20 hierarchy, without a Soviet C20 layer. Fooian Barian categories are ambiguous both because it can apply to either stuff from Foo in Bar or stuff from Bar in Foo, and because it is does not separate people categories and topic categories.
