== Tagging page as essay or how-to

Wikipedia:Trigger Warnings looks like an essay. Should it be labeled as such? I would stick in the template myself but I'm not sure of the process and classification. E.g., maybe it's a how-to. I find these banners useful to know how "official" a page is, so I think this page would benefit from one. Dhalamh (talk) 11:49, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

:{{ping|Dhalamh}} Hi there! It's already included in :Category:Wikipedia essays about editing, so I think labelling it as such at the top would be fine. Template:Essay shows the varieties of templates you can use at the top of the essay. You could also create Wikipedia talk:Trigger warnings and start a conversation with the essay's author: {{U|WhatamIdoing}}. GoingBatty (talk) 15:46, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

::@Dhalamh, I think you should read Wikipedia:Not every page needs a tag. Also, for context, if it doesn't have a tag that says "policy" or "guideline", then the status is "not official". Wikipedia:The difference between policies, guidelines and essays is subtle, and it is often unimportant.

::As for the particular page, I'd forgotten that I'd written it, and I don't really care what tags are put on it. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:52, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

line feed character in |title= at position 30 (help)

How do I fix this error? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Filipinohere (talkcontribs) 13:23, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

:{{ping|Filipinohere}} Typically, by fixing the (usually) fairly obvious gap where part of the title parameter has been moved on to a new line unnecessarily. Counting 30 characters along from the '=' sign should reveal where it is (if it is not already clear). There may be other complications in the ref. but without a link to the article concerned, cannot say. There should also be a blue 'help' link by the error msg. {{please}} Thank you. Redirect creation

Hello! So I've been thinking about creating redirects to American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 with the redirects being abbreviated versions of the name of the games (ATS and ETS2). My reasoning is that 1. this is a logical shortening of the names and 2. most people in the community when referring to them shorthand use ATS or ETS2. Would this be something that I could do and have it be constructive? I've been refraining from doing so because I don't want to cause issues by creating useless redirects (i've created a redirect before, Chevy Silverado EV however that's because there's pretty much a redirect with "Chevy" instead of "Chevrolet" for every vehicle made by the manufacturer) ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:16, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

: ATS is a disambiguation page, with links to various pages, of which American Truck Simulator is one. ETS2 is an article, with a hatnote linking to Euro Truck Simulator 2 for those who weren't looking for the protein. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:24, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

::Huh. Didn't know that. I thought I had attempted to search for the articles using those in the past but I must not have actually done so. If this weren't the case (and there were no other issues such as whether or not it's the primary topic or other things) would creating redirects like this be constructive? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:26, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

:::Blaze Wolf, WP:RPURPOSE says that {{green|Reasons for creating and maintaining redirects include ... Abbreviations and initialisms (for example, ADHD redirects to Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). But often an abbreviation will have multiple meanings, none of which is a primary topic—in that case a disambiguation page should be created rather than a redirect.}} TSventon (talk) 15:02, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

::::I had read that and wasn't sure if that would apply in this case and wanted to make sure that just creating a redirect with that reasoning would be constructive. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:04, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

7 month old merge proposal still unclosed

Hello! So recently I've been working on reviving WikiProject Nebraska and on the article alerts page, I noticed that there's a merge discussion that is over 7 months old at this point and yet was never closed. I'm not sure what exactly I'm supposed to do here. This should be closed (it's stale by now) however I'm not sure whether to close it as merge, no consensus, or something else since only 1 other person besides the nominator engaged in discussion. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:18, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

:I assume we're talking about Talk:List of cities in Nebraska#Merger_proposal? I would say that WP:SILENCE applies. Nobody has objected, so the merge can go forward. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:41, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

::Alright sounds good. I don't know how to do the merge properly myself so I'll try and figure out how to mark it as closed with consensus for a merge so that someone else can do it. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:43, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

Reply Tool roll-out

For those who don't also frequent the Teahouse or VPP, the Reply Tool will soon be rolled out to all logged-in and logged-out users. The tool makes it easier to reply on boards like this one. It is not yet available on mobile, and users can disable it if they choose.Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Offering the_Reply Tool as an opt-out feature. ⁓ Pelagicmessages ) 22:00, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

FOLLOW-UP: a new section about the Reply Tool has been added to Help:Talk pages. ([https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Talk_pages#'Reply_tool'_(rollout_due:_early_2022) See here]). Thanks, Nick Moyes (talk) 22:59, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
