• Delete This junk portal has been abandoned for over eight years and was still born. Never completed and went nowhere. It clearly fails WP:POG's requirement that portals should be about subjects broad enough to attract large numbers of maintainers and readers. This portal has had over eight years of no maintainers and it had a very low 22 views [https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&start=2019-06-01&end=2019-07-30&pages=Portal:French_language|Portal:French_language_and_French-speaking_world per day] in June and July 2019 (despite the head article French language having 3869 views [https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&start=2019-06-01&end=2019-07-30&pages=French_language per day] in the same period). Portals stand or fall on their merits in the now, not what could someday hypothetically happen with them, and this one falls flat. I am strongly against allowing recreation, as a portal about the French language has shown itself over many years to not be broad enough to warrant a portal. :It was created[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal:French_language&oldid=384496002] in September 2010‎ by {{userlinks|Mathieugp}}. The lead of WP:POG has said since 2006 "Do not expect other editors to maintain a portal you create" ... and this one has not been maintained, either by Mathieugp or any other editor.

:I examined the sub-pages listed at Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:French_language:

:* Portal:French language/Selected article/1, Selected article/2, Selected biography/1 and Selected biography/2. Three of the 4 are untouched since their creation in 2010 and a 2019 page move; the 4th differs only in having had a single wikilink added in 2014[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal:French_language/Selected_article/2&action=history]

:* I can't find anything else which has been changed since creation. Portal:French language/News had a formatting edit in 2014, and Portal:French language/Opentask is unchanged since 2010.

:The pageview figures are not quite as bad as @Newshunter12 claims. In May 2019, the portal was moved[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal:French_language&diff=896906945&oldid=892057061] from {{noredirect|Portal:French language and French-speaking world}} to Portal:French language, and a weird artefact of the pageview software is that it doesn't include views of redirects. So an accurate result is obtained only by doing a combined pageview count for both titles. In June and July 2019 that gives an average of [https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&start=2019-06-01&end=2019-07-30&pages=Portal:French_language|Portal:French_language_and_French-speaking_world 22 pageviews per day].

:WP:POG requires that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers". In this case, I think that the French language is theoretically a "broad topic". It is one of the primary languages in multiple countries across three continents, with over 200 million fluent daily speakers.

:However, that is not enough to justify the existence of a portal. POG also requires that the topic attract to the portal large numbers of maintainers ... and this one has attracted precisely zero maintainers.
