Since anorexia has an actual meaning - and one which is distinct from anorexia nervosa - it is problematic to redirect one to the other. Prior to 2015 WP's page for anorexia was a disambiguation page which is now at Anorexia (disambiguation); I can find no evidence of consensus for the move User:Doc James performed. I am requesting that the disambiguation page be reinstated as the article for Anorexia. Magic9mushroom (talk) 02:00, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
::Perhaps I should elaborate on the history here. "Anorexia" is literally the Ancient Greek for "loss of appetite". Anorexia nervosa was named as such because it appeared (as we now know, incorrectly) to involve a loss of appetite (and the name stuck due to inertia). While incorrect use of "anorexia" to mean "anorexia nervosa" is very common, and as such it would be inappropriate to make Anorexia the page for the symptom, redirecting educated people who know what the word means to something other than what the word means merely to save uneducated people a disambiguation seems foul and perverse. - Keep, Anorexia (symptom) averages [https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&range=latest-20&pages=Anorexia_(symptom) 200 page views a day], Anorexia nervosa gets [https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&range=latest-20&pages=Anorexia_nervosa 2,000]. For comparison, Anorexia gets [https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&range=latest-20&pages=Anorexia 111] and Anorexia (disambiguation) gets [https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&range=latest-20&pages=Anorexia_(disambiguation) a measly 11]. signed, Rosguill talk 05:11, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
- Keep per WP:COMMONNAME. In common vernacular it is never referred to by the full scientific name.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 06:26, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
- Keep per the above reasoning. Anorexia is the common name for anorexia nervosa. When the medical profession wants to say "loss of appetite" we just say so in English. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 03:55, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
