This little-used redirect page clutters up a huge number of categories. My first choice would be deletion, second choice would be to turn it into a standard redirect with no cats, third choice would be to add leading colons to the cats. (Example: :Category::Wikipedians who should probably stop screwing around with categories, lest they draw unwanted attention from the Categories Police ). Guy Macon (talk) 18:34, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Why did User:Aseleste/Category holder end up with "#invoke:RfD" instead of linking to this discussion? Is there a way to fix this? --Guy Macon (talk) 18:40, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Normally that means you've exceeded some limit in the template parser, or the LUA module has produced an error. Rather than expanding the template it just produces a wikilink to the template or LUA module. I assume it has something to do with NAMESPACE and ROOTPAGENAME magic words on the page, I don't know if the RfD LUA module has error handling to deal with being passed those magic words. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 18:46, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- {{fixed}}. It has nothing to do with magic words, the problem was instead that the page had too much wikitext to process. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:03, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
:Speedy keep, as I can't see any evidence that the nominator contacted this active and productive user before nominating their page for deletion. Aside from that, the deletion nomination doesn't make any sense - All of the categories are Wikipedia user categories, and how is the presence of a user page "cluttering" categories that are intended to hold user pages? If a user wants to put their user categories on a separate page, there is nothing wrong with that. No valid reason for deletion, and serious incivility against another editor. So you see no problem with a redirect that is in all of the following categories, and which makes all of the following categories larger?

I notice that someone collapsed the long annoying list above. And yet several editors are fine with the same list cluttering up hundreds of categories. --Guy Macon (talk) 06:12, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- Keep, the page seems to do exactly what it is supposed to do (categorise the user into user categories without displaying them on the main user page, while at the same time not inconveniencing editors looking through user categories by forcing them to perform an extra click). I am not aware that there is a limit to how many categories a user can categorise themselves into. —Kusma (𐍄·𐌺) 22:04, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: ...so what does {{replyto|Aseleste|p=}} think? (I think that's rather too many categories; I also think "people can do whatever the hell they want with their userspace" a high virtue.) Vaticidalprophet 00:02, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- : Is there any use -- any use at all - for this redirect other that to allow Aseleste to have their name appear in 252 categories without them being visible (and thus attract criticism) on Aseleste's user page? --Guy Macon (talk) 16:59, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- Comment -
oh no the categories police are coming{{Humor note}}{{Paragraph break}}The intention of this nomination is not addressing the appropriateness of the redirect itself, but the perceived excessive amount of categories. RfD may not be the best venue for this since RfD deals with the redirection itself, not the categories of the redirect.{{Paragraph break}}Personally, I do not see it as a problem that needs fixing, but I am fine with filtering out some categories. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 08:17, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
