• Support merge though oppose some specific fields being added which should be deleted instead - {{para|signature}} (which is used only once) is unnessaray for fictional character; {{para|preceded}} and {{para|succeeded}} should also be removed as they are ripe for WP:OR, incorrect or confusing information. See Olivia Benson which lists 3 Commanding Officers which preceded her instead of only one. If the appearence on show section is kept, then it seems that {{para|time on show}} and {{para|seasons}} are fields which offer the same information just in a different style, so only one should be used. • Merge / replace - most parameters except already exsist. Regarding {{para|Book(s)}}, I'm conflicted about this parameter, while it does have value, what happens when a character is appears in dozens of books? This seems like information which is better covered in the article, than summarised for an infobox. This gets even worse with {{para|character_adaptationappearances}} - do we want every batman adaptation appearence listed in an infobox? It would be a giant list. This too should be covered in the article. {{para|character_birth}} and {{para|character_death}} are parameters which have not been included in the main infobox, it seems on purpose, so not sure if adding them back would be correct. --Gonnym (talk) 14:14, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

• Replace and not merge - most of the non-unique parameters here are trivia information and not important for an infobox (some might not be even for the article) - {{para|bounty}}, {{para|ships attacked}} and {{para|brethren status}}. {{para|master}} seems to not be in use; {{para|appearance}} has the problem I commneted on for the Tolkien template, the list of appearences can be huge (films, tv, comics, books, etc) which should be handled in the article and not in the infobox. --Gonnym (talk) 14:32, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

Shortcuts/redirects for {{txl|short description}} are not recognised by the short description editing gadget, SHD is obscure and does not help anyone reading it, short desc is same problem and not even much of a shortcut, the others even more so. Most short descriptions should be added and edited using the gadget, there is no need for any shortcuts if the appropriate tools are used. On the rare occasions when manual templating is required the full name is not a burden. These shortcuts were created in good faith but it turns out they do more harm than good. The gadget does not handle editing of redirects correctly, and allowing redirects will make maintenance of the gadget unnecessarily complicated, so likely to be less reliable.

I propose to delete them all and salt. I have added a warning at {{tl|short description}} about this problem, requesting users to refrain fron creating and using redirects. · · · Peter Southwood ^(talk): 17:50, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

• {{u|Pbsouthwood}}, These all should be at WP:RFD actually. I want to note that it would only take a few minutes for me to support the shortcuts; the main thing would be that no new shortcuts be created - that would be what would create a maintenance burden. But another issue here is that these redirects don't show up in searches like Special:Search/insource:"Short description" which we use to figure out how many manual descriptions have been added.

:So I think it is reasonable to delete them all with the additional rationale that {{t|SHD}}, {{t|Brief description}}, and {{t|Short desc}} are somewhat more unclear than {{t|Short description}} in the wikitext (same reason for deleting {{t|Sdesc}}), and {{t|Shortdescription}} and {{t|Short-description}} are no shorter and barely used. AWB and similar anyways replace template redirects with their target and so we may as well not have them at all. Galobtter (pingó mió) 19:40, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

• Comment {{u|Pbsouthwood}} when you say the {{tq|the short description editing gadget}} can you be more specific? Would it be possible to update said gadget to support some of the redirects?
