- Localities: when the only locality with the name is in London (or if the London locality has primacy of meaning) the article should just be called Bethnal Green
- If it needs to be disambiguated with another article the suffix ", London" should be added e.g. Wimbledon, London
- In rare cases where two localities within London shares the same name, the suffix should be the borough e.g. Hayes, Bromley and Hayes, Hillingdon
- Postal geography (post towns, postcode districts etc.) are not used for article naming or disambiguation
- Boroughs: Official full names should be used in all articles which refer to London boroughs e.g. London Borough of Croydon, List of people from the London Borough of Croydon, Category:London Borough of Croydon etc. Many boroughs are named for localities within the borough (eg. Lewisham, Bexley, Ealing) and this naming style avoids ambiguity.
- Special cases: City of London, City of Westminster, Royal Borough of Greenwich, Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
=Buildings, structures, things...=
{{seealso|WP:COMMONNAME}}
- We should use common names of persons and things e.g. London Zoo and Palace of Westminster
- Where disambiguation is required "(London)" or ", London" is used as a suffix e.g. Hyde Park, London and City Hall (London)
=Transport=
{{seealso|Wikipedia:WikiProject London Transport/Manual of style}}
- Bus routes: as London Buses route 1
- Underground lines: as Piccadilly line or, where disambiguation is required, Circle line (London Underground)
- Stations:
class="wikitable"
! Served by | suffix | Example |
rowspan=4|National Rail only (this includes Elizabeth line and London Overground) | rowspan=4| railway station | Fenchurch Street railway station |
Woolwich railway station
Hackney Wick railway station
Romford railway station
London Underground only | tube station | Aldgate East tube station |
Tramlink only | tram stop | Addiscombe tram stop |
DLR only | DLR station | Westferry DLR station |
Any combination of the above | station | Stratford station |
- Large articles about important hub stations may be split out so Charing Cross station becomes Charing Cross railway station and Charing Cross tube station
- Stations that require disambiguation with other stations outside London gain the suffix (London) such as Reedham railway station (London) and Sutton railway station (London)
- An exception, if they require disambiguation, central area terminal stations are prefixed "London", such as London Victoria station
- In rare cases where there is more than one station in London with the same name the borough is added as a suffix such as Belmont railway station (Harrow) and Belmont railway station (Sutton)
=Lists=
- Lists covering all of London use the form "List of X in London" e.g. List of political parties in London
- If broken down by borough it takes the form "List of X in the London Borough of Y", e.g. List of schools in the London Borough of Barnet
- 'London Borough' becomes 'City' for Westminster and 'Royal Borough' for Greenwich, Kensington and Chelsea and Kingston upon Thames
- "London" is used in preference to "Greater London", except where it is specifically the local government area, less the City of London:
- e.g. List of electoral wards in Greater London and :Category:Councillors in Greater London
- "Greater London" is used for List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Greater London because that is the nomenclature used ("areas of search")
=Categories=
- Categories covering all of London use the form "Category:X of/in London" e.g. Category:Politics of London and Category:Education in London
- If broken down by borough it takes the form "Category:X of/in the London Borough of " e.g. Category:Politics of the London Borough of Barnet and Category:Education in the London Borough of Barnet
- 'London Borough' becomes 'City' for Westminster and 'Royal Borough' for Greenwich, Kensington and Chelsea and Kingston upon Thames
