|quote = In July 2012, some editors started a page called WikiProject Editor Retention with the idea of creating a place to brainstorm ideas about helping newcomers and fostering a friendlier atmosphere. Today the most vibrant parts of that project’s discussion page have gripes about “bullying done by administrators,” debates over whether “Wikipedia has become a bloody madhouse,” and disputes featuring accusations such as “You registered an account today just to have a go at me?”

{{Notice |One of our most obvious objectives in editor retention is to forward the idea of equality, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religion or creed. No one who discriminates may advertise here or be in any way a part of WER. Discrimination is completely against our entire mission, and will neither be endorsed nor tolerated.}}

This is a library of sorts. Open 24/7. No library card is required and no fines will be levied.

Back on July 1, 2012, Dennis Brown said: "I'm seeing a lot of discussion in a lot of places regarding editor retention, but not a coordinated effort. This is that coordinated effort, a way for us to actually do something beside speak out in random venues."

WikiLove Templates

Good day. I've been thinking about the WikiLove templates for a while - it doesn't seem like people use them that much, perhaps because, quite frankly, most of them are kind of ugly. They do have their place, however - sometimes the "Thanks button" isn't enough, but a barnstar is too much. A cookie is a great middle ground. I had the idea of going through and "modernizing" them all, so I can start handing them out and hope it catches on again. I took a shot at redoing Template:Cookie over at User:MediaKyle/sandbox/testcookie using colours from the [https://doc.wikimedia.org/codex/latest/style-guide/colors.html Wikimedia colour codex] - it looks good on desktop, just need to get the cookie image to stack properly on mobile. I wasn't sure who to ask about this, but I found this WikiProject today and I figured if anyone watches this talk page maybe I can get some feedback. MediaKyle (talk) 22:07, 15 March 2025 (UTC)

:Changes to a template normally should be discussed on the template's talk page. I don't know how many people watch that talk page, though, and I don't think this one is going to reach very many interested editors. Wikipedia talk:WikiLove and Wikipedia talk:Barnstars might be good places to place pointers to a discussion on the template talk page.

:Regarding the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:ComparePages?page1=Template%3ACookie&rev1=&page2=User%3AMediaKyle%2Fsandbox%2Ftestcookie&rev2=&action=&unhide= changes you made], from what I can see, other than the new background colour they're very technical in nature, so I don't think they do much to address the visual appearance. I suspect that there will be resistance to making the image bigger and for all text to be contained in a section to the right of the image, though that's just a guess. The CSS flex-wrap property can be used to control wrapping when the flexbox layout is used. You should consider the appearance with a variety of browser window widths and font zoom levels, and perhaps consider using the templatestyle feature so styles can be reused across different templates (I don't know if there is already an existing stylesheet serving this purpose for this type of message, though). isaacl (talk) 00:28, 16 March 2025 (UTC)

::I really appreciate your input. Designing around the various ways people interact with websites nowadays has been a challenge for me - I miss the days when we all had the same box monitor and everything could be hardcoded in HTML. I probably did go a little overboard on the image size, and when I switched my font size to "small" all of a sudden it looked pretty ridiculous. I'll workshop it for a while and see what I can come up with, the templatestyles will be quite handy for this if I can figure it out. MediaKyle (talk) 00:51, 16 March 2025 (UTC)

Peacock Check feature meeting invitation

The Edit check feature helps newer volunteers make constructive changes to Wikipedia projects by offering them actionable feedback while they are editing. The Editing team is working on a new check: Peacock Check.

Peacock Check will prompt people adding puffery or promotional terms to write in a neutral tone. The goals of this project are to:

  • Decrease the number of new content edits that contain non-neutral language,
  • Increase the quality of edits that new(er) volunteers publish
  • Reduce the volume of edits that experienced volunteers need to patrol or remove

We invite interested volunteers to join us for a session on April 28, 2025 at [https://zonestamp.toolforge.org/1745863200 18:00–19:00 UTC]. After a presentation about the goals of the project, we will try out the current prototype and discuss (in English) any feedback you’d like to share. Your input is very important to the team so that we can create a feature that fits everyone's needs. [on behalf of the Editing team] Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 21:36, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

Our edits can and will be changed by others …even this one.

I noticed that this segment included three periods instead of the unicode ellipsis character, so I took it as an invitation and edited it to include the ellipsis for screen reader support.

I didn’t want to break formatting for the infobox, but should the space come after the ellipsis? Horse.staple (talk) 22:21, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
