Yesterday, I reverted this link on Woodworking. The link just redirected to our article Glossary of woodworking. I checked it again after I reverted it a second time, and then it redirected to rogerthompsy.hubpages.com. Today, I reverted it on Fiverr redirecting to www.fiverr.com/arc_development/hd-video-review-testimonial-about-anything. I don't know of a way to verify the past redirects, but due to the nature of this, I thought that I needed to at least record it somewhere. Apparition11 Complaints/Mistakes 19:19, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

This user created LearnDiscovery – mindmap of Wikipedia (software) directly without going via Articles for Creation (yes, I know, not required, but the article is pretty awful), and now seems to be putting external links to it into tangentially related articles.

I'm not sure what to do about this, but I hope the people who read this will have a better idea. Pinkbeast (talk) 11:58, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Gg4u (talk) 20:05, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Pinkbeast,

I created the article based on Discovr format. Respect to Discovr I also included external references and links to related wiki articles which are relevant to the topic.

The topic is about a software for displaying mind-maps, also referred as concept-maps, atop of knowledge structure computed out of the wikipedia dump.

I include references to mainly covering Force-directed layout implementation and UX concerning mind-maps and concept maps and external relevant links.

Could you please give arguments for your opinion judging the article as "pretty awful" ?

I will be glad to improve it. Thank you.

I am replying you here, I am learning how to use the platform and talk board.

archive.limited

I don't have time to investigate this, but I get the impression the domain archive.limited, which has archived numerous non-Wikipedia articles, is now being refspammed into WP articles. There have been [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALinkSearch&target=*.archive.limited about 150 additions] today, each article edited by a different IP editor (at least, for those I've investigated; see for example [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chinese_New_Year&diff=656959956&oldid=656602591 this edit] by 46.193.0.235). It appears the domain embeds Yandex analytics/tracking info into the archived documents, though I'm not sure if that's of any relevance, as Internet Archive uses Google Analytics. Can someone check this out. At the very least, those replacing ref URLs are not following proper archive policy (use of archiveurl and archivedate); they are simply replacing ref URLs. Mindmatrix 01:24, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

:I have added this to XLinkBot's "revert inside of references" page until we can determine how dubious it is.. at least archive.org links preserve the old URLs, this replacement wipes them. There are already over 170 of these links on en.wiki. --Versageek 01:33, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Omniglot.com

{{LinkSummaryLive|omniglot.com}}

A personal/self-published web site that seems to have been spammed for a long time by multiple IPs/users to a very large number of articles relating to languages (there are currently 1,100 links to it here on en-WP...), a site that in the links claims to be a real "language encyclopaedia" but clearly isn't, and violates WP:ELNO both by being a personal web site not written by a recognised expert in the field (or even an unrecognised one, see http://www.omniglot.com/about.htm for info about his credentials, and also http://www.omniglot.com/aboutme.htm where he says that he earns his living from the web site, which is a good reason for spamming links to it...) and by not adding anything unique to the articles, or even anything that isn't included in an average non-FA/GA language article here (sample pages on Omniglot: http://www.omniglot.com/writing/finnish.htm repeatedly added to Finnish language and http://www.omniglot.com/writing/urdu.htm repeatedly added to Urdu; as can be clearly seen they're nothing but short stubs plus lots of links to other web sites, even linking back to the en-WP articles they're added to, for more information...). I noticed it yesterday when I stumbled across a very persistent spammer on Urdu and Finnish language, and then took a close look at the site. It has been reported to the spam blacklist but I also wanted to report it here, to get more eyes on it. Thomas.W talk 14:19, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

: While I believe many of these links were probably inserted in good faith and not as a matter of spam, I quite agree they are unsuitable. Omniglot is certainly not a reliable source, and for an external link it fails the basic criterion of not providing unique content beyond what we ourselves would provide. Fut.Perf. 09:30, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

:I looked at a db-dump of the additions that LiWa3 saved (1500+ in total, 325-ish on en.wikipedia) and I do not see that most of the links were added by one user, and as FPaS suggests, many regulars are adding the link. There may be spammers / COI-editors in the list, but they should be handled on a case-by-case basis.

:I also agree however, that these links do fail both WP:RS/WP:V, as well as WP:EL/WP:NOT - we can provide the contents ourselves in many ways. A good cleanup may be at hand here. --Dirk Beetstra T C 03:49, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
