Wind power is a growing source of electricity in Poland. In 2019, wind was the second most important source of electricity produced in Poland, after coal, accounting for about 10% of the electricity production.
History
From 2012 to 2014 the Nowy Tomyśl Wind Turbines were the tallest wind turbines in the world with a pinnacle height of {{Convert|210|m|ft}}. They are still the tallest wind turbines installed on lattice towers.
In May 2018 state-owned PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna decided to invest in offshore wind power pending delayed negotiations on building nuclear power plants in Poland. They aim to build 2.5 GW by 2030.{{cite news |url=https://www.powerengineeringint.com/articles/2018/05/poland-s-largest-power-group-opts-to-back-wind-over-nuclear.html |title=Poland's largest power group opts to back wind over nuclear |website=Power Engineering International |date=11 May 2018 |accessdate=12 September 2018}}
The total wind power grid-connected capacity in Poland was 9,428.3 MW as of 31 December 2023.{{Cite web|url=https://www.rynekelektryczny.pl/moc-zainstalowana-farm-wiatrowych-w-polsce/|title = Moc zainstalowana farm wiatrowych w Polsce | Rynek Elektryczny}}{{cite web | url=https://www.rynekelektryczny.pl/moc-zainstalowana-oze-w-polsce/ | title=Moc zainstalowana OZE w Polsce | Rynek Elektryczny }} In September 2020, the government announced a 130 billion zloty (£26.5 billion) plan to invest in offshore wind.{{cite news |url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/environment/2020/10/22/can-poland-dirty-man-europe-end-love-affair-coal/ |title=Can Poland, the dirty man of Europe, end its love affair with coal? |last1=Gatten |first1=Emma |last2=Suszko |first2=Agnieszka |newspaper=The Daily Telegraph |url-access=subscription |date=22 October 2020 |access-date=23 October 2020}} According to Poland's Supreme Audit Office, the Polish areas of the Baltic Sea could generate up to 28 GW in offshore wind power.{{Cite web |date=2022-09-14 |title=Offshore wind energy needs wind in the sails |url=https://www.nik.gov.pl/en/news/offshore-wind-energy-needs-wind-in-the-sails.html |access-date=2023-11-19 |website=Supreme Audit Office of Poland}} The Polish government's energy development plan aims for an installation of 5.9GW of offshore wind power by 2030 and 11GW by 2040. Capacity and production

As of the end of 2015, total installed capacity was 5.1 gigawatts (GW), which provided 10,858 gigawatt-hours (GW·h) — around 6.22% of the electricity consumed in the country.{{Cite web|url=http://www.gwec.net/wp-content/uploads/vip/GWEC-Global-Wind-2015-Report_April-2016_22_04.pdf|title=GWEC, Global Wind Report 2015}} By year end 2016 total installed capacity had risen to 5,782 MW.
