Biography
Blanter was born in Moscow. In 1984, he graduated from the Second physico-mathematical school of Moscow.[https://web.archive.org/web/20040825174609/http://www.school2.ru/who-is-who/cgi-bin/who-is-who.pl?year=1984 List of 2nd schools alumni of 1984]
In 1990, he graduated from the physicochemical department of the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys in the field of extractive metallurgy.[http://misis.ru/Portals/0/Vipusknikam/vipuskniki_1985-1994.pdf Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys alumni of 1985-1994] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090306093750/http://misis.ru/Portals/0/Vipusknikam/vipuskniki_1985-1994.pdf |date=6 March 2009 }} // Moscow, publ. «Учеба» МИСиС, 2006
Until 1992, he took post-graduate courses at the same institute. In 1992, he defended his thesis and received the Candidate of physico-mathematical sciences degree. The subject of the thesis concerned the development of the quantum effects in the kinetic properties of the electronic systems at the topological transition.[http://old.rsl.ru/table.jsp?f=1016&t=3&v0=Блантер,+Ярослав+Михайлович&f=1003&t=1&v1=&f=4&t=2&v2=&f=21&t=3&v3=&f=1016&t=3&v4=&f=1016&t=3&v5=&useExternal=true&bf=4&b=&d=0&ys=&ye=&lng=&ft=&mt=&dt=&vol=&pt=&iss=&ps=&pe=&tr=&tro=&cc=a1&i=1&v=tagged&s=0&ss=1003&st=0&i18n=ru&rlf=&psz=20&bs=20&ce=4&debug=false Search results at the Russian State Library catalogue]; [http://www.peeep.us/8a95f527 Page snapshot] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150924140903/http://www.peeep.us/8a95f527 |date=24 September 2015 }}
From 1990 to 1994, he taught statistical physics, the theory of normal and superconducting metals, classical and quantum mechanics. From 1989 to 1993, he also taught mathematics at the 43rd School of Moscow.{{cite web|url=http://www.1543.ru/teachers/remember/teachers/_full_list.htm|title=Прежние учителя 43 Школы и Гимназии 1543|website=www.1543.ru|access-date=17 July 2018}}
In 1995, supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, he obtained a position at the Institute of Condensed Matter Theory in Karlsruhe. From 1996 to 2000, he held a position at the University of Geneva. From 2000 to 2007, he was an associate professor at the Delft University of Technology. In 2007, he became a senior associate professor there.[http://www.tnw.tudelft.nl/en/about-faculty/departments/quantum-nanoscience/peopleresearch/research-groups/theoretical-physics/people/faculty/ym-blanter/cv/ CV] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130320055039/http://www.tnw.tudelft.nl/en/about-faculty/departments/quantum-nanoscience/peopleresearch/research-groups/theoretical-physics/people/faculty/ym-blanter/cv/ |date=20 March 2013 }} at the TU Delft official website In 2002, he was one of three members of the organizing committee of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop "Quantum Noise in Mesoscopic Physics", held in Delft, the Netherlands.{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=YHHoCAAAQBAJ | title=Quantum Noise in Mesoscopic Physics | publisher=Springer Science & Business Media | author=Nazarov, Yuli V. | year=2012 | pages=vii| isbn=9789401000895 }}
