York Outer is a constituency{{#tag:ref|A borough constituency (for the purposes of election expenses and type of returning officer)|group= n}} represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom since 2024 by Luke Charters of the Labour Party.{{#tag:ref|As with all constituencies, the constituency elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election at least every five years.|group= n}}

Constituency profile

The constituency is in the form of a ring surrounding the York Central constituency, and thus includes the outer areas of York itself and the surrounding rural areas. The Army's Queen Elizabeth Barracks, Strensall, and the former RAF Elvington and RAF Rufforth lie in the constituency, as does the University of York.{{cite web |title=Election Maps |url=https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/election-maps/gb/ |access-date=30 September 2022 |website=www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk}} Residents' health and wealth are around average for the UK.{{cite web|website=Electoral Calculus |url=https://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/fcgi-bin/seatdetails.py?seat=York+Outer|title=York Outer: Seat Details|accessdate=12 October 2021}} The area is currently ranked in the top 10 least deprived constituencies in the UK.{{cite web |author-link= |title=Deprivation in English constituencies, 2019 |url=https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-7327/|accessdate=22 March 2024}}

Boundaries

The Boundary Commission for England reviewed parliamentary constituencies between 2000 and 2007. In York, taking into consideration that York had been enlarged and become a unitary authority in 1996, the Commission settled on two constituencies, one representing the urban constituency and one representing the rural constituency, named York Central and York Outer.{{cite web |author1=Boundary Commission for England |author1-link=Boundary Commission for England |title=Fifth Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies: Volume One |url=https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/250797/7032_i.pdf |pages=476–479 |date=2007}}
