cavity switch

{{Short description|Device for time-domain cavity modulation}}

A cavity switch is a device that modulates cavity properties in the time domain. It is known as Q switching if the quality factor of cavities is under modulation. There are other properties such as the cavity mode volume, resonant frequency, phase delay, and optical local density of states can be switched or modulated.{{cite journal |last1=Jin |first1=C.-Y. |last2=Johne |first2=R. |last3=Swinkels |first3=M. |last4=Hoang |first4=T. |last5=Midolo |first5=L. |last6=van Veldhoven |first6=P.J. |last7=Fiore |first7=A. |date=Nov 2014 |title=Ultrafast non-local control of spontaneous emission |journal=Nature Nanotechnology |volume=9 |issue=11 |pages=886–890 |doi=10.1038/nnano.2014.190|pmid=25218324 |arxiv=1311.2233 |bibcode=2014NatNa...9..886J |s2cid=28467862 }}{{cite book |last1=Sattler |first1=T. |last2=Peinke |first2=E. |last3=Bleuse |first3=J. |last4=Claudon |first4=J. |last5=Vos |first5=W.L. |last6=Gérard |first6=J.M. |title=2017 19th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON) |chapter=Cavity switching: A novel resource for solid-state quantum optics |date=July 2017 |pages=17154854 |doi=10.1109/ICTON.2017.8025177|isbn=978-1-5386-0859-3 |s2cid=29987371 }} Cavity switches are mainly used in telecommunications and quantum electrodynamics studies.
