Function

Tenascin-R (TNR) is an extracellular matrix protein expressed primarily in the central nervous system. It is a member of the tenascin (TN) gene family, which includes 4 genes in mammals: TNC (or hexabrachion), TNX (TNXB), TNW (also known as TNN) and TNR.{{cite journal | vauthors = Erickson HP | title = Tenascin-C, tenascin-R and tenascin-X: a family of talented proteins in search of functions | journal = Current Opinion in Cell Biology | volume = 5 | issue = 5 | pages = 869–76 | date = October 1993 | pmid = 7694605 | doi = 10.1016/0955-0674(93)90037-Q }}{{Cite journal |last1=Hsia |first1=Henry C. |last2=Schwarzbauer |first2=Jean E. |date=July 2005 |title=Meet the Tenascins: Multifunctional and Mysterious |journal=Journal of Biological Chemistry |language=en |volume=280 |issue=29 |pages=26641–26644 |doi=10.1074/jbc.R500005200|pmid=15932878 |doi-access=free }} The genes are expressed in distinct tissues at different times during embryonic development and are present in adult tissues.[supplied by OMIM]
