van der Waals constants (data page)

{{short description|Table of constants for a list of gases and volatile liquids}}

{{Expand list|date=April 2017}}

The following table lists the Van der Waals constants (from the Van der Waals equation) for a number of common gases and volatile liquids.{{cite book|author=R. C. Weast|title=Handbook of Chemistry and Physics 53rd Edition|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=vyvdSAAACAAJ|year=1972|publisher=Chemical Rubber Pub.}} These constants are generally calculated from the critical pressure p_c and temperature T_c using the formulas a = \frac{27}{64} \frac{R^2 T_c^2}{p_c} and b = \frac{RT_c}{8p_c}.

To convert from \mathrm{L^2bar/mol^2} to \mathrm{L^2 kPa/mol^2}, multiply by 100.

To convert from \mathrm{L^2bar/mol^2} to \mathrm{m^6 Pa/mol^2}, divide by 10.

To convert from \mathrm{L/mol} to \mathrm{m^3/mol}, divide by 1000.
