As there is not a field hockey wikiproject, the competition tables format were surely taken from football or other sports (although you stated on the summary that "this does not follow football style")... so what style does it follow?.
The problem is that you have been reverting ANY changes made to the table. About the format, there was a (discussion where a consensus was finally reached. Following that consensus, I did not change the entire format [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Men%27s_FIH_Hockey_World_Cup&diff=1107398657&oldid=1100137677 to the FIH WC table], nevertheless you insisted on reverting the changes. Unlike that time, no MOS:flags or MOS:overlink can be alleged just like you did in the previous discussion. So I would tend to think that your changes are based more on a whim than a principled reason, unless you can prove the contrary.
So please, I'm going to make the changes again. If you persist on the same behaviour, I'll have to open a new case at WP:ANI with all the elements given above as proof to report your reversions as disruptive, which I don't want to do.
