Ranking and awards

No placement matches for places 9 to 16 were played, but as those places might be decisive for qualification to the Olympics, the regulations ranked those teams. The losing teams of the Round of 16 were ranked based on a their group stage record (points, goal-difference, goals scored) against teams placed 1st to 4th (those advancing to the Round of 16).{{cite web|title=Determination of Places 9-16|url=http://handballbrazil2011.com/us/details_news.asp?id=608&moda=&contexto=02.03&area=&evento=|publisher=handballbrazil2011.com|access-date=13 December 2011|date=9 December 2011|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120426010047/http://handballbrazil2011.com/us/details_news.asp?id=608&moda=&contexto=02.03&area=&evento=|archive-date=26 April 2012|url-status=dead}}
