The 2022 Kansas City Royals season was the 54th season for the franchise, and their 50th at Kauffman Stadium.

On December 2, 2021, Commissioner of Baseball Rob Manfred announced a lockout of players, following expiration of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the league and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA). On March 10, 2022, MLB and the MLBPA agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement, thus ending the lockout. Opening Day was played on April 7.{{Cite news|url=https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-mlbpa-agree-to-cba|title=MLB, MLBPA agree to new CBA; season to start April 7|last=Feinsand|first=Mark|date=March 10, 2022|accessdate=March 10, 2022}} Although MLB previously announced that several series would be cancelled due to the lockout, the agreement provides for a 162-game season, with originally canceled games to be made up via doubleheaders.{{cite news |last1=Lacques |first1=Gabe |title=Baseball is back: MLB, players agree on new CBA to salvage 162-game 2022 season |url=https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2022/03/10/mlb-lockout-2022-season-players-owners-opening-day/9429523002/ |work=USA Today |date=March 10, 2022 |accessdate=March 13, 2022}}

On September 13, the Royals were officially eliminated from playoff contention for the sixth consecutive season.

Overall, the team finished with a 65–97 record (.401), landing them in last place in the American League Central and in second to last place in the American League, winning more games than only the Oakland Athletics, whose record was 60-102 (.370).
